☀️🌕🌑 Solar Eclipse Fun in Pre-School! 🌑🌕☀️

Following yesterday's solar eclipse, the children in Pre-School have been busy talking about this amazing event!

The children were able to tell us that a solar eclipse happens when the moon moves in front of the sun and blocks it from view. They also shared that it can become darker when this happens, showing some fantastic understanding of what they had learned.

Inspired by our discussions, the children created their own wonderful solar eclipse pictures by folding a piece of paper and painting the sun on one side and the moon on the other. 🎨🌞🌙

This led to some brilliant conversations about space. We talked about how the sun is a giant ball of fire that is incredibly hot, while the moon is covered in little dips called craters and is much cooler.

It has been lovely to see the children's curiosity and excitement as they explored this fascinating natural phenomenon through discussion and creative activities! ✨🚀

What wonderful news to celebrate! 🎉

Our apprentice, Ruby, has successfully achieved a Distinction in her Early Years qualification. This outstanding achievement is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and commitment to providing high-quality care and learning experiences for the children in our setting.

We are also thrilled to announce that Ruby is now a fully qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner and will be continuing her journey with us as a valued member of our team.

⚽Pre‑School Penalty Shootout Fun!⚽

Our little superstars had an absolute blast today practising their very own penalty shootout at nursery!

Tiny boots, big smiles, and even bigger celebrations — you’ve never seen goal‑scoring quite like this.

From dramatic run‑ups to victory dances worthy of the Premier League, they threw themselves into it with all the joy and energy only pre‑schoolers can bring. What a brilliant way to build confidence, coordination, and teamwork.

Who knows… we might just have the next generation of football heroes right here. 🌟⚽

Little Firefighters in the making🚨

Last week, we welcomed the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, giving our nursery children the chance to get up close and explore a real fire engine 🚒

They climbed into the back, checked out all the different safety tools, and watched the firefighters race to put on their safety suits as quickly as possible. The biggest highlight was hearing the sirens, which definitely got everyone’s attention.

A brilliant experience that sparked plenty of excitement and curiosity.

Peggy the Pigeon 🐦‍⬛🪺

We have a lovely new resident in our nursery garden—Peggy the Pigeon. She has carefully built her nest on the air‑conditioning unit between Bunnies and Bunnies 2, giving her the perfect view of all the children’s adventures.

Peggy has laid eggs and whilst she was off for a quick flight to stretch her wings we were able to capture a photo of them and some wonderful action shots of her returning to her nest.

The children are very excited that Peggy has chosen the nursery garden as her home, and it’s been a lovely opportunity to talk about caring for wildlife and respecting nature.

Peggy has quickly become part of our day, and the children have been encouraged to give her a gentle wave whenever they spot her.

Well Being Week 🦙🦙🦙

As part of well being week, on Friday 17th April the children at Highwood Nursery were invited by the college to see some alpacas that were visiting for the day.
The children enjoyed feeding and touching the alpacas and learnt about what they were named and what they liked to eat. They talked about how soft they were and the different colours and sizes. One of the alpacas was only 2 years old!

Thank you to the team at Brockenhurst College for inviting the nursery children to share in this experience.

Full throttle fun 🏎

Last week the children headed next door to the main college campus, where they got to see a real Formula 1 race car up close.

They discovered just how fast it goes and loved learning about the loud racing sounds it makes.

You never know, we might see a few of them on the track in the future 😁
