Our topic this month has been- science 🧪

We have explored so many different themes to do with science this month!
Colour mixing🌈;
The children engaged in lots of activities that supported their creative thinking skills and help to promote colour recognition. We made a rainbow tower and a walking rainbow that showed us how to mix colours, we explored different colours in nature, creating rainbows and exploring natural materials. We used the sun to help us explore colours and working as a team to think of our own ideas!

Habitats 🦔;
We explored our forest school area making bug hotels, going on bug hunts and even making our own birds nests. We used the natural materials to decorate some butterflies. We made our own jellyfish with different materials allowing the children to be imaginative and expressive. The children did some snake cutting out which supported their fine motor skills. We then explored our garden to pick some blackberries to make paint. The children used the paint to explore textures and other ways of being creative.

Forces 🍎;
We learnt about Issac Newton and his discovery of gravity. We explored our nature area to roll rocks, pine cones and wooden disks discovering if they would go fast or slow. This activity help to promote gross motor skills and collaborative thinking. We made some windmills and tested out how they move and designed them as our very own.

Our artist of the month has been Kandinsky, we worked with shapes and colours to make our own artwork inspired by him. 🎨

Our topic of the month was space 🔭🚀🪐

This month preschool has engaged in lots of space themed activities, we made some delicious star shaped biscuits where the children got to use their creative thinking skills, we made our very own rockets and space men to put on the display, played with fizzy Bicarbonate trying to find stars that were hidden in there. 🌟

We also had lots of space treasure hunts trying to find pictures to help us with counting, practicing writing our numbers and number recognition. The children made play dough aliens and had a go at seeing how far their rockets could go! 🚀

Our artist of the month was Peter Thorpe, we looked at lots of pictures of his artwork and had a go at making our own. We used pictures from space and lots of glitter and glue. 🛰️

Following on from international bee week, the preschool children engaged in some bee themed activities. We had a go at making bee hats, painting rocks to look like bee’s and we even had a special visitor from a bee keeper. We got to look at the bee’s up close and even tried some of the honey they had made! 🐝

This month we have been watching our caterpillars turn into butterflies 🦋. The children got to hold the butterflies and we watched them fly away. We spoke about how it feels to hold them and the different colours we could see!

Just a reminder that we are closed Friday 3rd April and Monday 6th April, and will be back as normal on Tuesday 😊

Just remember… calories don’t count at Easter 😉
