No parent chooses this because it's easier.

Over the years, I've spoken to many families who have reached the heartbreaking decision that mainstream school is no longer the right place for their child.

Not because they wanted to.

Because they felt they had run out of options.

Behind every decision is a child who may be struggling with anxiety, school avoidance, overwhelming emotions, bullying, unmet additional needs or a complete loss of confidence.

Parents don't stop fighting for their child when they leave school.

In many ways, the fight has only just begun.

That's why it's so important that we, as a community, don't judge families for the path they've taken. Instead, we should ask:

"What support do they need now?"

At Mr Gillman Tuition CIC, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, feel safe and reach their potential, regardless of the path their education takes.

If this message resonates with you, please consider sharing it. The more people who understand the challenges families face, the more opportunities we can create together.

When a child leaves school, they don't just lose a classroom.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot recently.

Many families don't make the decision to deregister their child because they want to. They reach a point where they feel they have no other option.

Yet when that happens, the conversation often focuses on what they've *left* rather than what they've *lost*.

For some families, leaving school can also mean losing access to support networks, enrichment opportunities and other services that were helping hold everything together.

At the very moment a family may need more support, they can find themselves navigating a much more challenging path.

This isn't about criticising schools. Many work incredibly hard to support young people in difficult circumstances.

It's about recognising that there is a gap.

A gap between leaving one system and finding the next.

That's one of the reasons we established Mr Gillman Tuition CIC.

Our mission is to remove barriers to education by providing funded tuition, mentoring and educational support for young people who need it most.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

What do you think is the biggest challenge families face when mainstream education is no longer the right fit?

Removing Barriers to Education 15/06/2026

🎉 We are delighted to launch the first fundraising campaign for Mr Gillman Tuition CIC.

Every child deserves the chance to succeed. Yet many local families face barriers to accessing the educational support their child needs. Financial hardship, anxiety, school avoidance, low confidence and additional needs can all have a significant impact on a young person's future.

Our goal is to raise £5,000 to fund the first educational support places through MGTCIC, helping local young people access tuition, mentoring and support they may otherwise be unable to afford.

If you can donate, no matter how small the amount, you will be helping create opportunities for local children and families across Portishead, Clevedon, Pill and the surrounding area.

If you are unable to donate, a simple share of this post would mean the world to us.

Together, we can remove barriers to education and create brighter futures.

Every young person has potential.

With the right support, confidence grows.
With confidence, progress follows.

We’ve seen first-hand how small steps can lead to big changes, not just in grades, but in mindset.

MGTCIC is here to make that support accessible to more families.
