Feeling profoundly grateful and inspired after co-facilitating the most recent Sea Change Women’s Lab on the beautiful Isle of Tiree.
For two days, a remarkable group of women from across film - production, distribution & exhibition- came together for workshops designed to help them really notice how brilliant & influential they truly are. We spent months carefully crafting sessions focused on doing the inner work featuring reflective listening, open questions, and action learning, all with the goal of supporting one other & exploring the power of vulnerability and connection.
I’m continually amazed by the trust, openness, and depth that each participant brings to Sea Change every time. It was an absolute privilege to witness the participants dive into the Lab, both professionally & personally. Their work is so meaningful & it’s an honour to hold space for them to acknowledge just how impactful they are.
The setting makes everything magical. Tiree offered us sea air, stunning beaches, and glorious sunshine – a perfect complement to the nurturing atmosphere within the Lab. We were also blessed with delicious, nourishing veggie food lovingly prepared by Lizzie and Shelia: the Lab is such a powerful combination of community, curiosity & courage.
This year’s Lab was, as ever a big team effort, and I’m sending big love & thanks to my brilliant co-facilitators: Sally Griffith, Morvern Cunningham, & Lauren Orme . Special thanks to Maura McKee for her fantastic organisation behind the scenes, and of course a huge shout-out to Jen Skinner whose vision & determination brought the Sea Change programme to life. From a conversation we had back in 2017, the first Sea Change was born in 2018, and other than Jen, I’m incredibly proud to be the only person to have attended all of them – first as a speaker, and now as a coach-facilitator.
The Lab is followed by the Sea Change Film Festival, thoughtfully curated by Jen & presented by Jack Lockhart. The festival included Jeanie Finlay ‘s brilliant , Esther Johnson ‘s exploration of Vietnam’s film archive Dust & Metal, wonderful coming of age, Triple F-Rated Indian film , outstanding Swedish film , Lena’s , about Kim Carnie’s + journey & so many more. I particularly loved spending time with Melanie Iredale, Anna Smith and Jeanie Finlay
It’s an incredible privilege to be part of something so transformative. Thank you to all the incredible women who joined the Lab & to the wider Sea Change community – your vulnerability, creativity, and passion make this practice so powerful. Massive love to all Sea Changers from 2018 onwards: you are always present in the Lab even when you not on Tiree in person: huge love to you!
Here’s to continuing to inspire & uplift one other in all that we do ♥️🌊✊🌊♥️
