At our Totterdown Nursery in Bristol our children have been learning all about oral health and they have been brushing their teeth beautifully at Nursery!
Chantelle- a Qualified Dental Nurse – came to support us and she was very pleased to see our highly effective and well-established tooth brushing routine. She even gave us a certificate which we have displayed for everyone to see!
In her feedback she wrote: “The programme is well organised and confidently led by staff. Training has been thoroughly cascaded to all relevant team members. It is evident that programme guidance, assessment requirements and daily procedures are well understood and consistently implemented. The tooth brushing session is carried out in smaller group sessions, enabling staff to visually supervise all children effectively while providing appropriate guidance and support. Children confidently and independently follow the established routine. Staff provide supervision and age-appropriate guidance on the correct amount of toothpaste provided. Children are appropriately encouraged to spit excess toothpaste into a paper towel rather than swallow it. Toothbrushes are clearly identifiable, stored in an organised rack in a safe location when not in use, and the racks themselves were well maintained and clean. Infection prevention and control standards are of a very high quality, with clean, well-organised storage systems and robust hand hygiene practices in place. Overall, staff was able to showcase effective organisation, along with clear staff commitment has ensured the delivery of high-quality toothbrushing sessions. All staff and children should be extremely proud of the progress made in successfully implementing a high standard of the programme.”
