⛳A Hole-in-One for Water Efficiency: How One Golf Club Could Save £70,000 a Year
At the end of last month, Account Manager, Richard Rees, and Account Manager Support, George Sheehan, visited Tilgate Forest Golf Centre, part of our longstanding partnership with the Lex Leisure Group, to explore opportunities for improving water efficiency and reducing operational costs through our ongoing account management service.
During the visit, we reviewed a number of opportunities to improve water efficiency and support the club's long-term operational goals. The club has experienced four leaks within its irrigation network, largely due to ageing infrastructure. Plans are now in place to repair the leaks, and a leak allowance application has been submitted. Looking ahead, the club is exploring the replacement of the existing irrigation system with modern pipework to help reduce future leaks and improve network reliability.
We also discussed an exciting rainwater harvesting opportunity. By enhancing drainage on the driving range and capturing rainwater in a purpose-built underground storage tank, the club could not only make better use of a natural resource but also address seasonal ground saturation issues.
Currently, waterlogged conditions during autumn, winter and spring can prevent the ball collection buggy from operating efficiently, resulting in balls being collected by hand. This is estimated to cost the club around £70,000 per year in labour costs.
With an estimated investment of £150,000, the proposed drainage and rainwater harvesting solution could deliver a return on investment in just over two years, while supporting sustainable water management and improving operational efficiency.
