Winford Church of England Primary School Welcome to the official page of Winford Church of England Primary School.

We are a caring, ambitious Church school where children are encouraged to Aspire, Belong and Care as we live out our vision of Together We Flourish (John 10:10).

There has been so much fun, creativity and adventure happening at playtimes recently!

Our children have been making the most of our developing outdoor play provision — cooking up all sorts of creations in the new mud kitchen, enjoying the new tree swing, and using loose equipment to design their own assault courses and activity trails.

It has been lovely to see children of different ages playing together, sharing ideas, taking turns and creating their own games. There’s been plenty of problem-solving, balancing, building and, most importantly, lots of smiles and laughter! 😊

We love seeing our children having the freedom to be imaginative and active during their break and lunchtimes. Another great example of Together we Flourish in action. 🌱❤️

🌟 Another great week at Winford! 🌟

It’s been lovely to see so much busy learning happening across school this week.

💦 Our Reception children have been having lots of fun exploring and learning through water play, as well as getting creative making pictures and developing those all-important cutting and sticking skills. ✂️🎨

🍃 In Year 1, the children have started learning about artist Andy Goldsworthy and have been experimenting with creating their own artwork using natural materials. We can’t wait to see where their creativity takes them! 🍂🌿

🔢 In Year 2, maths headed outdoors! The children used chalk to explore different ways of partitioning numbers, showing their thinking through part-part-whole models. A great way to make maths active, visual and fun!

Just a little snapshot of another busy week of playing, creating, exploring and learning across Winford.

🌱 Getting ready to grow at Winford! 🌱

Our little gardening crew have been very busy giving our raised beds some much-needed TLC! After becoming rather overgrown and more than a little weedy, they’ve been cleared, tidied and prepared, ready for some fresh planting. 🌿🥕🌻

We’re also delighted with our lovely new garden shed, purchased with funding from our Somerset Gardens grant. A huge thank you goes to the amazing team at Omnia Build, who generously gave up some of their time during the summer holidays to come into school and build it for us. ❤️

And they didn’t stop there! They also put their skills to good use creating a wood store from pallets for our Forest activities area. We are so grateful for their time, generosity and support for our school.

There’s something very special about seeing another little corner of our outdoor space being brought back to life. We can’t wait to see what the children grow here over the coming months! 🌱🐝🌼

A big thank you to our gardening crew, Somerset Gardens and the wonderful Omnia team — what a difference! 👏

🌿 Something new has arrived on our school field! 🌿

We’re really excited about our brand-new mud kitchen area, which is now ready for action! 🪣🍃🥄

This fantastic space is part of our developing Winford outdoor play provision and will be available for all of our children to enjoy at breaktimes and lunchtimes. We can already imagine the mud pies, potions, cafés, creations and imaginative adventures that will take place here! 🌱✨

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for funding the new mud kitchens and helping us continue to develop our outdoor spaces. A particularly big thank you goes to Laura, who has done all of the organising and setting up to get everything looking this brilliant. ❤️

We absolutely love it — and we have a feeling the children are going to love it even more!

🌧️🌱 Have you spotted our new planters around school?

They’re doing much more than making our grounds look lovely! Thanks to Wessex Water, our new rainwater planters are part of a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS), designed to capture rainwater from our roofs, hold it and release it more slowly.

After the rain we’ve had this week, we’ve already been able to see them doing their job! By slowing the flow of rainwater into the drainage network, they can help reduce pressure on the sewer system and flood risk, while also creating greener spaces for plants and wildlife. 💧🐝🌿

We’re especially pleased that our Eco Team had a say in the project, helping to choose the colour and style of the planters during the summer term. A lovely example of our children helping to make decisions about their school and environment.

A huge thank you to Wessex Water for providing and Glanville Environmental for installing them.

🌱 Caring for our school, our community and our environment.

🍂 What a wonderful first week back at Winford! 🍂

We have really enjoyed welcoming everyone back to school this week, as well as saying a very special hello to all of our new children joining us in Reception and across other year groups. ❤️

Our new Reception children are already settling in brilliantly and have had a busy first week exploring their new classroom and getting to know one another. There has been lots of fun in the sand and water, plenty of adventures on the bikes, and time to settle down together and enjoy some lovely stories. 🚲💦📚

Today brought an extra-special story time as the children shared our brand new book, Gruffalo Granny together — a lovely way to finish their first full week at Winford! 📖✨

Across the school, it has been wonderful to see classrooms busy again, friendships being renewed and new ones beginning. We are so proud of how positively the children have returned and thrown themselves into the new school year.

A very happy first week back — and the start of lots more to come! ❤️

Parents of Year 6 pupils, don't forget to apply for secondary school places by the 31st October deadline. Follow the link below.

🎓📚✏️📘🚸

One for parents of Year 6 children to stick on the fridge…

It feels ridiculously early when they’ve only just gone back to school, but applications for secondary school places for September 2027 open this Saturday, 12 September.

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, this is the application you need to make. The deadline is 11.59pm on 31 October 2026.

A couple of things that are worth knowing:

If you live in North Somerset, you apply through North Somerset Council, even if one of the schools you want is outside North Somerset.

And please don’t assume that because your child goes to a particular primary school, has a sibling somewhere, or you live nearby, that a place will automatically happen. Have a look at the admissions information for the schools you’re considering before you make your choices.

There’s plenty of time yet, I’m posting this now because every year there will be somebody who sees the words 31 October at approximately 11.47pm on 31 October 😬.

If you know someone with a child in Year 6, please tag them or send this on. ❤️

Applications and all the guidance are here:

🌙❤️ The night before school…

Bags are packed, uniforms are ready and alarms are set — with perhaps a few butterflies fluttering too!

Whether your child is excited, nervous or feeling a little bit of both, remember that these feelings are completely normal. A calm evening, a gentle cuddle, a little reassurance and a good night’s sleep can help everyone feel ready for the morning.

There’s no need for everything to be perfect. Your child will be welcomed with warm smiles, caring adults and friendly faces waiting to help them settle in. We’ll take each moment together, at their own pace. ❤️

We’re ready, we’re thinking of you and we can’t wait to welcome all our children back to Winford!

🌿 Three little words that are going to mean a lot at Winford this year…

❤️ Aspire
🩶 Belong
💚 Care

As we begin a new school year, we’ll be introducing our three school values and exploring what they mean for all of us at Winford.

⭐ Aspire — to dream, believe and achieve.
🤝 Belong — to know that we are included, valued and part of something special.
💚 Care — to show kindness, compassion and responsibility towards ourselves, each other and our world.

During the first few weeks of term, we’ll be talking about these values in worship, in our classrooms and throughout school — thinking together about what they look like in the things we say, do and choose every day.

Three simple words, but together they help us live out our vision:

🌿 Together we Flourish.

We can’t wait to begin exploring them with the children!
