The more I work with mothers, the clearer it is that I chose to get closer to my own mother in all the ways I could - to be lucky enough to be a mother, to be lucky enough to work with mothers - and to lift them up and celebrate š everything they do.
All this is, in part, to celebrate my own - who left us nearly 3 decades ago. New life experiences have brought new insights into what parenting might have been like for her - the joys and the challenges. What it means to connect with others, take responsibility, provide a role model, change family patterns⦠it is a constant source of learning for me. And not all of it easy.
As a motherless mother, Mothers Day is bittersweet. And a reminder that Motherās Day is complex for so many people. I send love to those who find it a struggle.

I realise that over the last year or so, my MAMA Coaching account appears to have been hacked by a fervent bunch of mothers - who work in music in some way - raising awareness of certain barriers to success by putting on events and hosting meetings and such likeā¦
Who ARE this group of rebels?
Well, itās us! Sort of. And hereās our new logo, courtesy of one of our earliest members, the very talented
Itās an active group of trailblazers, and if you are a mother working in music, you are very welcome to join us in discussion and action about how to ensure women remain visible, valued and celebrated in their musical careers after they become a mother. You wouldnāt believe how hard it can beā¦.
In the meantime, please begin by following us on our IG account at and youāll be joining a community and growing audience for more discussions, events and collaborations.
2025 is going to be HOTš„

Hello Brighton!!
In collaboration with based in Brighton, we are hosting a Mothers in Music conversation at The Rose Hill, on Friday 19th July at 10.30. You are very welcome!
I have had such a ball creating this conversation and space in Bristol, so we can share what it is like to be both mother and work or perform in the music industry. Now it is time to take the conversation further afield.
For those of you in Brighton, please come - and let me know via [email protected] whether you can make it. I really look forward to meeting you. Any questions, just get in touch.

Since the Mothers In Music network group has been such a thriving success, we thought weād reach out to other arts sectors to develop conversations about what the challenges are, and solutions look like, for mothers to stay Visible, Valued and Celebrated in their industry.
Please join us on Thursday 2nd May at 10am (including a private tour of Acts of Creation exhibition) for our next Mothers in Art meet up. It would be lovely to hear your story and suggestions.
Other arts sectors: watch this space! More to come on that soon # # #

What does leading A Creative Life mean to you?
For some, it is pursuing a creative career, for others, making time for a hobby or craft or music practise maybe.
For me, it might be all those things - but as a working mother, making time for my own creative practice feel selfish and unjustifiable. There are ALWAYS more important things to do.
But at what cost?
I am inherently creative - I love making things, sewing, playing music, writing, reading and experiencing art that others have made too. I like musing on a melody or dancing in the kitchen. None of these things are selfish, or unjustified: they make me feel like me. And when I don't engage with them, I feel less like me.
If you are feeling the need to bring some creativity back into your life - often spaces taken up by the needs of others - then consider coming on my 12 week programme: A Creative Life.
You can find out more here, and book your places with us. It will be a small, online group, meeting every two weeks on a Friday morning throughout the Summer term.
