What happened after the Covid crash of 2020?

Interesting to see how fast it recovered, and the lesson is not to make any rash and emotional decisions when markets are falling. Zoom out and you see that markets have always recovered, even through world wars and pandemics.

WATCH TO THE END

It’s time in the market, not timing the market.

Don’t try and predict what’s coming - there will be ups and downs when investing but if you invest for the long term then you are much more likely to see out those ups and downs.

I GOT IT IN! My face of shock is completely genuine, I haven’t felt like I’m even close!

Day 6 of the coin-flick challenge! 🪙☕️

Today, I am clearing up the single biggest point of confusion for beginner investors: What actually is an ISA? Most people think an ISA is an investment product you go out and “buy.” It isn’t.

Think of a Stocks & Shares ISA as a custom, tax-free shopping basket. You don’t buy the basket itself; you open it. Once the basket is open, you walk down the investing aisles and choose what to buy—like index funds, global ETFs, or individual company shares—and place them inside the basket.

The magic happens once they are in there. Everything inside your basket is completely shielded from the taxman. Any capital gains or dividends your investments make can grow and compound entirely tax-free, forever.

If you are ready to open your own basket but don’t know what to put inside it yet, we have you covered. Comment “VOUCHER” below, and I’ll slide a £10 discount code into your DMs for my upcoming beginner’s workshop here in Bristol!

Day 5 of the coin-flick challenge! 🪙☕️

We’ve talked about inflation, purchasing power, and keeping your money active. Today, let’s look at one of the absolute pillars of the investing world, but one that sounds a bit boring or confusing on paper: Bonds.

Think of a bond as a formalized, structured version of an “IOU” note.

When a major company or a government needs to raise cash—whether that’s to build a new motorway network or invest in massive infrastructure—they don’t just walk into a bank for a standard loan. Instead, they issue bonds to the public and to investors.

When you buy a bond, you are essentially acting as the bank. You lend them your money for a set period of time (say, 5 or 10 years). In exchange, they legally promise to do two things:

1 Pay you a fixed, regular percentage of interest along the way (known as a coupon).

2 Give you your original lump sum back in full on a specific date in the future.

Because the payments are fixed, they are often referred to as “fixed-interest” assets. They are generally considered lower risk than buying shares in individual companies, making them a crucial tool for balancing out a portfolio.

Day 4 of the coin-flick challenge! 🪙☕️

It’s Bow Tie Friday, the vibe in the classroom is great, and we are back trying to land this 20p into the mug to give away a free investing workshop spot!

But before the flick, I want to make something 100% clear about my workshops: I am fully independent.

I am not affiliated, sponsored, or partnered with any investment platforms, fund providers, or financial companies. I am an educator, not a salesman. I’m never going to pitch you a specific financial product, push you into a specific fund, or try to sell you anything from the stage.

The goal is purely education. I want to break down how investing works in plain English, play a few interactive games, and keep the energy positive and simple so you can walk out the door feeling confident enough to manage your own money yourself.

If you want to grab a £10 discount voucher for the next Bristol workshop, just comment “VOUCHER” below and I’ll send it straight over to your inbox.

Day 2 of the coin-flick challenge! 🪙☕️

Today, I want to talk about why we actually need to invest. Obviously, we all want to see our money grow, but the real enemy we are fighting is inflation. It’s quiet, it’s under the radar, but it is constantly eating away at our money if we leave it sitting idle.

Think about the humble Freddo. Back in the year 2000, a Freddo cost 10p. Today, they average about 35p.
That means if you kept a 10p coin in a drawer since 2000, it’s still legally worth 10p today—but its purchasing power has dropped by 71%. You can only buy a tiny fraction of a Freddo with it now (and trust me, the shops won’t let you bite a piece off).

Inflation means the cash we hold buys less over time. To protect your hard-earned money, you have to put it to work so it can grow above the rate of inflation.

Give me a follow to keep up with the daily coin tosses, and let’s get your money working harder for you.
