🥕🌱 Eat Your Veg Day!🌱🥕

This week at Nursery on the Green, the children celebrated ‘Eat Your Veg day’ by exploring a variety of fresh vegetables, including crunchy carrots and leafy cabbage.

The children enjoyed investigating the different textures, colours, and smells, with some little ones even sneaking away to the book corner to happily munch on their carrots while reading! 📚🥕

In our Saplings Room, the children had the opportunity to practise their independence and develop their fine motor skills by safely cutting vegetables with close adult supervision.

It was a wonderful hands-on experience that encouraged healthy eating, curiosity, and confidence while having lots of fun along the way! 🌟🥬

Today we had a visit from a child who attends our setting along with their parent. They very kindly offered to bring in their Quail Chicks to show the children. Safe to say it was a big hit! The children were fascinated watching the little chicks move around their enclosure. They even had the chance to gently hold and stroke them 🐥🐣

We have recently been learning about life cycles and it was really lovely to see the children discover the Chicks had started in a little egg! It was lovely to see their wonder and excitement.

We are grateful to have amazing and supportive parents at our setting. Thank you for a great experience.

🌿💚 World Green Week at Nursery on the Green💚🌿

Last week we were celebrating World Green Week with a fun and creative activity exploring the colour green!

The children enjoyed making marks and patterns using their feet and green paint, creating unique artwork while engaging their senses and developing their coordination. There were lots of smiles and laughter as they squelched, stomped, and explored the different textures.

Activities like this encourage creativity, self-expression, and learning through play, all while making wonderful memories with friends.

A fun, messy, and exciting way to celebrate World Green Week! 🌱👣🎨

🦋 Butterfly Release Day at Nursery on the Green🦋

What an exciting and magical experience for our children last Tuesday!

After spending time observing our caterpillars grow and transform, the day finally arrived for us to release our beautiful butterflies into the world. We were incredibly lucky to have 10 butterflies emerge, giving the children plenty of opportunities to witness the fascinating life cycle firsthand.

The children enjoyed looking closely at the butterflies, learning about their delicate wings, and some were even brave enough to gently hold them before watching them take flight. It was a wonderful opportunity to encourage curiosity, patience, and respect for nature while bringing learning to life in such a memorable way.

From tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies, the children have thoroughly enjoyed every stage of the journey. Watching the butterflies spread their wings and fly away was a truly special moment that filled our garden with excitement, smiles, and a sense of wonder.

A fantastic hands-on learning experience that our children will remember for a long time! 🐛➡️🦋💚

🌿 Exploring, Discovering & Learning Outdoors 🌿

Since our visit from Learning Through Landscapes a few months ago, we have been inspired to make even more exciting use of our garden space – and the children have absolutely loved the changes!

Our outdoor environment is now filled with opportunities for exploration, creativity, and discovery. From engaging water play experiences and creating habitats with our bug hotels, to hanging reflective CDs in the trees and observing how they move and catch the light, the children are encouraged to investigate the world around them in new and exciting ways.

We have also been focusing on noticing the little things in nature – searching for insects, watching the changing weather, and exploring the colours and textures found throughout the garden. These experiences help to develop curiosity, imagination, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, confident, and enthusiastic as they learn through play in our ever-evolving outdoor environment. 🌱💚

🦖 World Dinosaur Day 🦕

Last Monday, the children celebrated World Dinosaur Day by taking part in a variety of exciting dinosaur-themed activities. A particular favourite was our dinosaur feet printing activity, where the children explored different dinosaur footprints through creative mark-making.

This sparked lots of curiosity, leading the children to compare the dinosaur footprints with their own. They enjoyed creating prints of their own feet and discussing the similarities and differences in size, helping to develop early mathematical language and observational skills.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning while having fun exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs!

🌱 Encouraging Independence in Saplings 🌱

We are delighted to share that our wonderful chef, Sarah, has started working with small groups of children from our Saplings Room to help prepare the crackers and rice cakes for snack time each day.

This exciting opportunity allows the children to take on responsibility, build confidence, and develop important life skills. As they help prepare snacks for their friends across the nursery, they are learning about teamwork, following instructions, good hygiene practices, and the importance of helping others.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed being involved and take great pride in contributing to their nursery community.

A big thank you to Sarah for providing such valuable and meaningful learning experiences for our children. 💚

✨ Staff meeting Spotlight: Risky Play ✨

Last week at The Nursery on the Green, our team came together for a valuable staff meeting focused on the importance of *risky play* in early years development.

Risky play may sound a little scary, but in a safe and supportive nursery environment, it plays a huge role in helping children grow in confidence, resilience, independence, and problem-solving skills 💡💪

Whether it’s climbing, balancing, exploring new challenges, or learning how to assess risks for themselves, children develop important life skills through opportunities that encourage adventure and curiosity.

At nursery, we carefully support children to take age-appropriate risks in a safe and supervised way, helping them to:
🌱 Build confidence
🧠 Develop critical thinking skills
⚖️ Learn boundaries and risk awareness
🤝 Improve coordination and social skills
✨ Become resilient and independent learners

As practitioners, it’s important that we continue reflecting on our environments and experiences to ensure children are given opportunities to challenge themselves, explore safely, and learn through play every day.

We are proud to continue growing as a team and creating enriching experiences that support every child’s development 🌈💚
