To give your child the best chance at successfully reading a book, here are some tips:
• Read in a quiet place – turn the TV off, sit together and encourage your child to hold the book and turn the pages independently.
• Look at the title, front cover and blurb - talk about what the book might be about.
• Before your child reads the book for the first time, look through it and talk about what is happening in the pictures and what might happen at the end.
• Include any vocabulary you think your child might be unfamiliar with in your chat.
• NOW start reading the book.
Hello. I am Jo Sowerbutts, a specialist reading teacher based in Bristol. I became a reading recovery teacher and qualified as a specialist dyslexia teacher in order to help children who are experiencing difficulties with reading and writing, especially those struggling at school.
I offer one to one sessions to Year 1 to Year 6 children. The individualised sessions are delivered in a fun and interactive way and are designed to give your child the tools and confidence to overcome some of the common barriers to reading and writing.
I have over 20 years’ teaching experience in the primary setting and have specialised in providing one to one literacy tuition in order to help struggling children achieve their full educational potential.
If you think I can help, please get in touch..... I'd love to hear from you.
