How it started vs how it's going

Back in the summer of 2015 I had this wild idea.

I had been trying to figure out how I could create LGBTQ+ representation in children's theater, but found that so many avenues toward that goal were patrolled by gatekeepers who fundamentally misunderstood what I was trying to do and why.

So I came up with this wild idea to shift my focus from theater into digital media where I could create an educational (and entertaining) webseries for kids all about LGBTQ+ topics.

I shot a pilot for it, but something about it wasn't working. It was just me talking to the camera in a unicorn onesie and it was honestly kind of boring. It needed something. And that's when I turned to my best stuffed-friend, Teddy.

Teddy is my *actual childhood bear*! I've had Teddy since I was Teddy-sized! It was a no-brainer to bring Teddy along for the QKS ride when I started thinking about bringing on a co-host.

And that's when Q***r Kid Stuff was born.

Through QKS, Teddy and I have spread joy to **millions** and had a profound impact on people's lives. Something I will probably never be able to truly wrap my head around.

I ended the series in 2019 for many reasons. But after five years away, I'm finally ready to bring QKS back. With Teddy by my side of course!

But here's the think, we need you help!

Teddy and I are running a crowdfunding campaign to Bring Back Q***r Kid Stuff and we have just FOUR more days to hit our $15K goal. The campaign is 62% funding and all we need to do is channel our inner Simone Biles and STICK THE LANDING!

We’ll share some of the stories behind these numbers in a later post 🥰🫶🏻 Here, you’ll learn how the numbers shake out. How many views we’ve had in the channel since our pilot episode in 2016, some of the (maybe unexpected?) countries on our list, and the reality of our YouTube revenue. Our TikTok account is banned 😔 No email telling us why. No way to get back into the account to appeal the decision. It just disappeared *p**f* gone. QKS is a wholesome children’s show. There is nothing bannable about it. Although I guess some people would disagree with that.

This is unfortunately not our first rodeo. We’ve been banned and reinstated on platforms before but this one feels different. It feels insidious. And I don’t see anyway for me to bring it back. I’m going to be honest, the vibes this Pride have been off. Wayyyyy off. The amount of misinformation around q***rness, transness, and kids is off the charts. It is all over my comment sections. My comment sections have always been gnarly but something is different right now.

We need hope. More than ever maybe. I’m doing my absolute best to fulfill my mission to spread q***r joy. But I can’t do it if I keep getting banned and reported and traumatized by hate comments. And I can’t do it if I don’t have the resources to make new content which have dwindled significantly over the last year with fewer and fewer school and library bookings. Idk y’all, can I get a vibe check? How’s everyone else doing?

Happy Pride, friends!!! 🏳️‍⚧️🥳🏳️‍🌈 Lindz & Teddy and the QKS fam all wish you an awesome start to your pride month 🥰🫶🏻

Times aren’t the easiest. They haven’t been for a while. But we will always remain hopeful for the future.

Whether you’re q***r or trans or P@lestinian, or Jewish, or Black, or Indigenous, or disabled, or any combination of marginalizations, WE SEE YOU. You are enough just being your incredible self. Even if the world we live in doesn’t always recognize that. We will not rest until we are all free. Until we are all liberated.

This pride month we ask that you pair your words of support with action. We are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to reboot our original webseries. It would mean so much to us if you would donate and spread the word.

There is so much power in the collective to make change when we bring our resources together and move from a place of abundance instead of fear.
