“World expert on detector R&D for particle physics experiments meet at the University of Sussex”

The CALOR2022 International Conference (https://www.sussex.ac.uk/physics/research/calor2022) is taking place this week at the University of Sussex.
Ninety experts in detector Research & Development are meeting from the 16th to the 20th of May at the University of Sussex’s conference centre to discuss the status of detector R&D for the current and future experimental particle physics experiments.
The conference is sponsored by the peer-review journal Instruments MDPI, which will publish the proceedings from the conference, CAEN, a world leading electronics company, and the School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences at the University of Sussex.

The CALOR conference is organised every two years, alternatively in Asia, Europe and Americas. The last edition was held in 2018 in Eugene (USA).

Professor Salvatore, from the local organisation committee, said: “It is really exciting to restart to have these international meetings in person. Fifty of the ninety participants are here at Sussex, while the remaining ones are following the conference online. I am really grateful for the help we have received from the MPS Research Support Office (Alex Ferrari and Sinead Rance) and Nicola Collins at VisitBrighton for the organisation of this event.
Many of the participants are PhD students and early career researchers, who will have the opportunity to present their work in an international setting. This will be an excellent opportunity to discuss the status of R&D for future particle physics experiments in a relaxed and welcoming setting. We are all looking forward to the discussions this week !”

Astronomy, Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Experimental Particle Physics, and Theoretical Particle Physics.

This week the Sussex EPP group is at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Didcot, to participate at the 65th HEP-APP Institute of Physics Annual Conference.
In addition to lots of very interesting physics talks and conversations, on Sunday the Sussex EPP football team, captained by Sammy Valder, won the annual ’Bubble Chamber’ tournament! Congratulations to Sammy and the rest of the team!
