We're thrilled by the news that Resa B. Nelson ’26, a biology major in Hofstra’s Honors College, has been named Hofstra’s first-ever Rhodes Scholar.

Resa’s passion for discovery transformed her academic path — initially planning to go to medical school, she turned to research under Dr. Javier Izquierdo, working to convert sargassum seaweed from the Caribbean into sustainable biofuel.

In addition to her groundbreaking research, she’s deeply committed to service: she tutors at a middle school, mentors other students, and advocates for education.
