John Nichols on BBC Breakfast: Safeguarding in the Tutoring Industry with DBS Checks 06/09/2024

As a former Teacher and DBS checked Tutor, I’m sometimes shocked at how many Tutors out there have little/no documentation or safeguarding checks in place. I’m glad this is coming to light more, thanks to institutions such as The Tutors’ Association

If you want safe, reliable and transparent tutoring check out my tutoring services at https://dlgprivatetuition.tutorbird.com/home I’ll happily share my certification and checks!

🌞📚 As we head back to school after a long summer break, it’s natural for both children and parents to feel a mix of excitement and nerves.

Here are some tips to make the transition smoother:

1. Establish Routines: Start adjusting bedtimes and morning routines ASAP. Practise the new routine, including walking the route to school, to build confidence and familiarity. It’s not too late to do it this weekend!
2. Organise Supplies: Prepare school supplies and review the year’s goals to create a sense of readiness and excitement. What do they want to get out of this year? Maybe they want to improve in a particular subject, get more confident in exam conditions or try a new after school club?
3. Open Conversations: Talk to your child about their feelings regarding the new school year. Acknowledge any anxieties and celebrate their previous achievements.
4. Stay Positive: Focus on the positive aspects of returning to school, like reconnecting with friends and engaging in new learning opportunities.
5. Self-Care: Remember to take care of yourself, too! A calm, positive attitude will help your child feel more confident.

The Young Minds website have great resources to share with your children, check it out: https://www.youngminds.org.uk/young-person/blog/tips-for-dealing-with-back-to-school-anxiety/

🌸 "When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower." — Alexander Den Heijer

I have been thinking about that quote after a lovely visit to Sheffield Park gardens, (the rock garden there is amazing - that's my photo!) I've been in situations where I felt out of place and struggled, and I know how important it is to find the right environment to thrive. That’s why I’m passionate about private tuition! 🌟

In a one-on-one setting, we can ditch the distractions and focus on what really matters for each student. We can move at their pace, revisit concepts as needed, and skip ahead if they’re already on top of things. 🌱

I work closely with each student to create a learning experience that suits their needs and helps them truly understand and enjoy what they're learning. Let’s find the right environment for your child to bloom! 💪📚
