FINALLY GOOD NEWS!!! A “groundbreaking” fashion act is set to make history in New York this year by finally holding big brands accountable for their role in climate change.
The bill requires companies to detail the lifecycle of their garments: from the farms where the raw materials were extracted, through to factories and shipping.
They must then identify the points where they have the greatest adverse impact on the environment and people. It will require them to examine fair wages, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water and chemical management. They also have to make concrete plans to do better - in line with the Paris Agreement goals where carbon emissions are concerned.
- A recent World Resources Institute (WRI) report found that the industry is responsible for 2 per cent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions.
With reports of rivers of chemical pollution and hazardous working conditions, fashion’s crimes are no secret.

Fast fashion is a growing source of carbon emissions. But those emissions could well be its undoing; carbon pollution is worsening climate change, including impacts in the heart of fast fashion garment hubs around the world.
A working paper published by Cornell University’s New Conversations Project in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations examines different ways the apparel industry might be forced to change in the wake of the global pandemic. It looks at everything from how online-only ordering is changing how supply chains operate to the possible impacts of climate change.

The secondhand clothing trade is seen as an outlet for fashion excess and therefore must operate at the scale and pace of the new clothing industry. Secondhand clothing markets are overwhelmed with cheap fast fashion items. The never-ending supply of non-durable items drives down the perceived value of clothing.
Value and care for your clothes… there’s always a way to mend them so you can enjoy them longer!

For every year you keep wearing your clothes, you reduce by around 30% your carbon footprint...REPAIR, MEND, FIX!!

Care for your clothes!!
Why repair your clothes? ✂️🧵
Because the more of an emotional connection we build with our wardrobes, the less likely we are to discard them, and the best antidote to our throwaway culture is simply to keep. Repair = care.

Fact: The amount of water needed to make a t-shirt is enough for one person to stay hydrated for 900 days while the amount of water needed to make a pair of jeans is equivalent to hosing down your lawn for 9 hours straight... Upcycling clothes keeps the materials in use. 💚
