The SOSA team is excited to be hosting a celebration event to recognise and celebrate the awardees. The event will be held on the 8th June 2022 1PM-5PM, in the Student Center. There will be fun activities, free afternoon teas, alcoholic & soft drinks, guest speeches, prizes, and an opportunity to mingle with fellow students! All award winners in the academic years 2020/21 and 21/22 are invited, but please feel free to come along with a friend too! 📣📣 You are invited to the Spirit of Sussex Speed-Logging party! This event is a great opportunity for you to learn more about each award category, discover how many points you’ve already earned and where you can log them on the award platform.

The Spirit of Sussex Award Speed-logging event will be hosted in Northfield Bar on Wednesday 9th March. We will be having two session slots, and you can sign up by clicking in our bio.

Session One is between 2:00-3:30pm

Session Two is between 3:30-5:30pm

Students who attend will be given a free food and drink voucher (£10 face value each). Please note, spaces are limited, so you will need to book your place in advance. 📢

We can’t wait to see you there! 😋

🗣 LOG 5 POINTS FOR FOCUS GROUPS 📣The Student Voice team are running focus groups to gather student feedback around Academic Advising.
We are looking for students from every school at Sussex, students from WP backgrounds and international students to take part in these focus groups. The sessions will last 1 hour and will run during the week beginning 7th March. Students will receive a £10 Amazon voucher on completion of the focus group.

Are you passionate about social issues in the world? Do you like tea and snacks? Hot Tea & Hot Topics is an exciting opportunity for all students to think and discuss topics that matter to you!

We will discuss a variety of topics every fortnight such as climate change, environmental justice, gender equality, racial justice, and so on. It is also a great way to meet new friends from all over the world and learn from each other.

📣DAY TWELVE📣 of our 12 Categories of Christmas is “Other”.

If you find any activities that do not fall under our other 11 categories, you can log your points under “Other”.

Donating blood is one example. It can saves lives of people with medical conditions such as anaemia, cancer blood disorders, and those undergoing surgeries.

If you have worked a part time job at any time during your degree, you can log 5 points towards your Spirit of Sussex Award.

There are other work related activities that you can log your points for, such as attending a job interview, accessing CV/coverletter feedback support from Career and Employability Centre, etc.

DAY EIGHT of our 12 Categories of Christmas is “Sports and Recreation”.

In addition to joining sports clubs, there are many activities falling under our “Sports and Recreation” category!

Taking a part in Sussex Walking and Hiking society () is a good example. They will have a “Step into Christmas Walk” this weekend.

You can log 5 points for this walk under our “Sports and Recreation” category!

There are different workshops and events available that help you develop your skills and make you better as a person.

Contents: Learning different skills online such as public speaking, IT skills, project management, leadership, etc for completely FREE

1. Panic Attacks Workshop by University Counseling Services 
(ZOOM)
Contents: Learning strategies for coping with the unpleasant experience and consider how you might be able to overcome them.  
Time: A 3-week group running from Wednesday 8th December at 2pm via zoom and then again from Wednesday 20th April 2022

3. Peer-to-peer Training (Available to 0, 1st, and 2nd year UG students)  (In-Person)
Content: Exploring challenges that first/second year students at Sussex and in local colleges could face early in the transition to university and how to deal with those challenges.

Student elections are great opportunities to participate in creating a positive change within the university.

Over the next 12 days, we will be showcasing an Award category each day with exciting events, activities and inspiring stories to help you earn points.
