Carriage Driving In Cumbria

At Carriage Driving in Cumbria we are a small family team. We have two bases, one based in the Lune Valley, with easy access off the M6 and one on the outskirts of Cockermouth, not far from the A66, both with plenty of quiet country lanes to enjoy our pony's company in.You get to choose which base is closest to you for your lessons. We aim to teach others how to appreciate the equine in their life

and to drive kindly, sensibly and safely, for the welfare of both for their pony and for themselves, in a variety of forms, private lessons with their own pony or with ours, re-schooling work (in harness and under saddle, where possible) and clinics where a few pupils come together and we work with one turnout at a time whilst the other pupils watch and learn from each other during the lesson. We also offer the opportunity to come and enjoy the drive out in the carriage through the beautiful countryside, so whether it's a life long dream or something you would like to try, contact us and we will see if we can make it happen, either for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Taster lessons are available in either our four wheel carriage or our two wheel carriage with one of our school master ponies have competed sucessfully with us at private driving and one / two day events for many years. We teach English coaching style rein handling, harness fitting, carriage types, fitting the carriage and putting to, reasons for the methods used and safety, adapting techniques for driving trials, ring craft and etiquette, driving cones, dress code, your horse or ponies fitness etc. Beginners and novices are our speciality but all are welcome, don't be afraid to get in touch. Lessons are available with your own horse / pony or with ours. We can travel to you if you are fairly local to give you lessons with your own turnout. Each lesson is tailored to your individual needs.
