Six weeks off… and she’s walked back in this morning like she was only here yesterday! 💪

Straight back to playing, exploring and making herself completely at home. No hesitation whatsoever. 🥰

It’s always so lovely to see how secure and comfortable our little ones feel when they return after a break. Welcome back, gorgeous girl — we’ve missed you! 💕

And just like that… Cheeky Monkeys is back! 🥰🐒

Even on my week off from work, learning is always happening 🥰❤️

My gorgeous boy Jude has been busy practising his threading today, and just look at that concentration! 🥹

Such a simple little activity, but so much learning happening — developing his fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, problem-solving and perseverance as he carefully worked out how to get the bead onto the pipe cleaner.

The childminder in me clearly never completely switches off 😂 but when learning looks like play, why would you want it to? ❤️

So proud of my gorgeous boy 🥰

🎓 A certificate that means far more to me than just another qualification…

I’m really proud to have completed my Level 3 SENCO qualification, but if I’m truthful, there’s also a lot of sadness and guilt behind this one.

Over the years, I’ve trusted that the education system and the professionals within it would know what support children needed and would put that support in place.

Then I became the parent of a child who needed that support.

Watching my boy struggle, and later learning about things such as the SEND Code of Practice, reasonable adjustments, the graduated approach and the responsibilities schools have towards children with SEND, made me realise just how much I didn’t know at the time.

There were times I knew something wasn’t right. I knew my child was struggling. I questioned things and I fought for him — but I didn’t have the knowledge I have now to know what should have been happening or how much further I could push when it wasn’t.

That’s something I still carry a lot of guilt about.

But I can’t change what I didn’t know then. What I can do is make sure I keep learning now.

So this certificate isn’t the end of my learning — it’s actually just the beginning. ❤️

I’ve now signed up for further training and I intend to keep building my knowledge around SEND, neurodiversity, communication and supporting children’s individual needs.

Because whether it’s one of my own children or one of the little people entrusted to my care, I never want lack of knowledge to be the reason I don’t speak up, ask questions, challenge something or advocate for a child who needs someone in their corner.

The more I learn, the louder that voice becomes.

And every child deserves someone willing to use it. ❤️

This one’s for Alfie — because so much of what I’ve learned started with fighting for you. 💙

🎨 Clever little man! 💙💛💚❤️

We’ve been playing with colours as always and this little superstar absolutely smashed it! 🥰 At just 20 months old, I asked him to find me red, blue, yellow and green and each time he picked out and handed me the correct colour. 👏

It’s lovely seeing just how much he is understanding now — recognising and matching colour words is fantastic for developing language, listening, memory and early cognitive skills.

He also had me absolutely howling earlier. 😂
We were sat together at the picnic bench when Alfie wandered outside and sat opposite him.
Little man looked straight at him and casually came out with…

“Hiya, mate!” 😂😂

The timing and the way he said it were just perfect! It just goes to show how much these little ones pick up as these were my exact words when Alfie arrived 30 mins prior 🥰

Never a dull day at Cheeky Monkeys! 🐒❤️

📚 Sharing a story is one of the simplest ways to bond with your child.

Thanks to our funding of Dolly Parton’s , families in North Lincolnshire can receive a FREE book through the post every month.

The books are yours to keep, which means by the time your child turns five they could have their very own home library of up to 60 books. 📕📗📘📙📔

One of last month’s books for little ones born in in 2021 was Welcome to Dinosaur School.

Jewel the dinosaur is very nervous about her first day of school. There are so many new dinos to meet, the dining hall is noisy, and her new classroom is so big! But as the day goes on and Jewel settles into her new class and makes new friends, she realises that school isn’t that scary after all.

A perfect read for all those preparing to start school in September.

If you’re a North Lincolnshire resident, signing up is free and easy.

We’ve been using Makaton more and more within the setting, and I absolutely love seeing how quickly the children are beginning to pick it up. 🥰

For little ones who are still learning to talk, being able to use a sign alongside the spoken word gives them another way to communicate and can really help reduce frustration while their speech and language is developing.

My crazy grandson is a perfect example! 💚 His manners are absolutely spot on in sign — his please and thank you are coming along beautifully and he certainly knows how to sign ‘more’ when he spots chocolate in my hands 🙈🥹👏

We always say the word alongside the sign, so Makaton supports and encourages spoken communication rather than replacing it.

It’s amazing just how much little ones can communicate with us before all of those words have quite caught up. 👐🐒💚
