I was invited to speak about animal-assisted therapy today at the annual Pet Service at a neighbouring parish church. It's probably the most unusual setting I've had for giving a talk but it was well attended by 20 people, 5 dogs and 2 guinea pigs...
We're feeling the benefit of having planted over 2000 trees on our property 25 years ago, which thankfully means we can walk the dogs mainly in the shade. Also fortunate to ride in a part of Somerset which has deep, shady lanes.
How is everyone else coping with the heat with their pets?

Haymaking season is upon us again so we're keeping everything crossed that the weather holds and the old machinery doesn't let us down...
Monty is in the wars again - no idea how he sustained these injuries to his legs, he just ran in from the garden with blood all over 2 of his legs. The vet made a neat job of stapling his wounds closed, only for the one on his back leg to have re-ooened (last picture) so looks like it will need to heal the slow way. At times like these you realise how paper thin a whippet's skin is...

Incorporating the healing power of nature into therapy can take many forms. At our recent wellbeing day for therapists, material from nature - such as sticks, branches, pine cones, foliage, and blossom - were gathered and then selected and arranged with care to create a mandala of deep symbolic significance to the participants.
