🔥🪵 Explorer Scout Survival Weekend! 🌲🦌

We were so pleased to be invited to take part in this amazing adventure with the Scouts. Working with course leader Alan and the team, our Explorers learned real bushcraft skills — including skinning and butchering 6 muntjac deer, before cooking up a hearty venison stew over the fire. 🍲💪

The weekend wasn’t without its challenges — on Saturday we had to evacuate camp due to high wind warnings. But thanks to a huge team effort, all 60 Explorers relocated safely and carried on without missing a beat. 🙌 Their resilience and enthusiasm shone through, and before long they were back outdoors, hands-on with real game butchery.

💥 Special shout-out to Martin who made it all possible, and to the brilliant Cole Valley South Scouts troupe — we couldn’t have done it without you! 👏

We’re incredibly proud of these young people — their teamwork, grit, and willingness to step outside their comfort zone was inspiring! 🌟

✨WILD HEN DO VIBES✨

What a fantastic day celebrating our beautiful bride-to-be with a wild food adventure like no other 🌿💍🔥

We gathered in the heart of nature at the stunning Wootton Park and kicked things off with some serious style (and mud!) — the bride led the way, quite literally diving in to harvest cattails from the pond! 🛶🌾

From there, we wandered the land, foraging flowers, leaves, and fruits — a magical walk through the wild that ended in campfire mastery 💪 Every single lady smashed it making fire, and then came the feasting... 🍴

With coeliac, vegetarian, and keto diets in the mix, we whipped up a variety of wild-inspired snacks and meals to suit everyone:

🥩 Venison biltong
🍎 Apple, plum & elderberry fruit leather
🌰 Roasted hazelnuts
🔥 Fire-roasted cattails

Then we dived into a delicious starter:
🌰 Chestnut pancakes with wild garlic — optional crunch of mealworms 🐛😉

Main event?
🌿 Wild garlic pesto with GF pasta or
🔥 Smoked venison steak with wild greens

And to wash it all down:
🍍 Pineapple w**d tea
🍋 Pine needle lemonade
🍯 Pine pollen syrup
💧 Homemade Hazelnut Milk

A perfect balance of wild, whimsical, and a little bit wicked. Nature never tasted so good 😍💚 Here's to love, laughter, and ladies who forage together!

Wildbiome Day 11 - 14 🌿🍖

Not gonna lie… daily updates are getting real tricky to keep up with now that Easter Holidays are in full swing. Between wrangling the kids, working full-time, foraging/cooking/documenting for Wildbiome AND trying to stay semi-present on social media — it’s turning into a full-time job in itself 😅

So here’s your highlight reel from the past few days ✨

Day 11:
🍳 Leftover egg whites omelette with lacto-fermented wild garlic flower buds
🥩 2 slices of smoked venison steak
🍭 Rosehip lollipop
🌾 Sedge biscuits
🥜 Usual charcuterie mix (hazelnuts, apple rings, fruit leather)
🔥 Tallow deep-fried venison liver

Day 12:
🥜 Charcuterie mix again
🔥 Deep fried venison liver (yes... again. sigh.)

Day 13:
🥩 Smoked venison steak
🍳 Fried egg
🌿 Wild leek
🥜 You guessed it — charcuterie mix

Day 14:
🌿 Mixed wild leaf salad topped with barberry, primrose, wild garlic & white dead nettle flowers
🥩 Diced venison steak
🌾 Sedge biscuits
🥜 The trusty charcuterie mix

Feeling equal parts wild, tired, and grateful. Thanks for sticking with me 💚

Wildbiome Day 10 – The Day of Hunger

I wasn’t obsessing over food like earlier days, cravings had eased, but my stomach definitely seemed to have more room again.

🥚 Breakfast was a fried egg with crispy meat scraps and nettle tops, paired with my usual dandelion cuppa.
🍏 Lunch started light—dried apple rings + pine pollen tea—before I got experimental and made savoury seed biscuits from sedge and plantain seed, with kelp and mushroom powder folded in (yes, I taste-tested. Yes, it was worth it).
🐟 Turns out I did need a proper lunch after all, so I whipped up a violet flower lemonade and a trout & kelp soup using the last of my trout and homemade stock from the head and bones.
🌞 Warm sun in the afternoon called for a rosehip lollipop—wild treats hit differently.
🌼 Dinner was chestnut tempura-battered dandelion flowers with wild garlic aioli (egg & tallow). The aioli was thick—more spread than sauce—but it tasted like something that really wanted to be on toast… if only I were allowed any.

Day 9 | Wildbiome Project

Today hit hard.
Same routine. Same motions. But mentally? Struggling.
Cravings have come back swinging – coffee, pastries, takeout… everything I swore I was over. Suddenly, the finish line feels miles away and I’m questioning if I’ll even make it there. 😩

It’s wild how our minds test us just when we think we’re getting a handle on things.
But I guess that’s part of the process – breaking the cycle means facing the hard days, not just cruising through the good ones.

Not giving up. Just needed to say it’s not easy today. But I’m still here. Still doing it. One (grumpy) gut-healing step at a time. 🥬☕🚫

Wildbiome Day 8 – Fishing & Foraging Feels 🎣🌿

Breakfast was my usual mix of wild staples — pemmican, fruit leather, biltong, smoked venison ham, and hazelnuts. But today, I switched up the dandelion coffee for something a little more indulgent: a wild chai brewed with hazelnut milk, rose, lavender, hogw**d and fennel seeds, flowering currant, and cherry blossom. Later on, I brewed a cup of pineapple w**d tea — like chamomile, but with a gentle pineapple twist.

Dinner was a real treat: a beautiful whole trout a friend brought over from their fishing trip. I baked it wrapped up with currant, then finished it with wild garlic salt and crispy-fried dandelion and blood sorrel leaves.

Sipped on pine needle lemonade and ate it all outside in the sunshine — a quiet moment of gratitude for good food, good friends, and wild abundance.

Wildbiome Day 7 – Survival Foods 🌿

Kept things simple today with the usual lineup:
☕ Dandelion coffee
🍖 Smoked venison ham & biltong
🌰 Hazelnuts
🍓 Fruit leather

Then spent most of the day finally finishing off my batch of pemmican — venison, hazelnuts, mixed berries, salt, and venison tallow. Once it set, I cut it into blocks, portioned it out, and froze most of it. Kept a bag handy for the week ahead. Dense, satisfying, and packs serious energy.

Dinner was quick and hearty again — chestnut pasta leftovers with scraps of game bird, wild garlic, ground elder, some stock, and an egg yolk stirred in at the end. Super filling, way more so than any wheat pasta.

Slow food, wild fuel. Feeling solid.

🪵 Wildbiome // Day 6: A Balanced Diet in the Wild 🌲

Started the morning with dandelion coffee brewed strong, blended with hazelnut milk. The leftover hazelnut pulp is drying out now — it’ll be added to pemmican later. Out here, every scrap counts.

Midday fuel was a survivalist’s spread: strips of fruit leather, venison + apple mush biltong, smoked venison ham, and a handful of hazelnuts. High protein, high fat, and all shelf-stable — exactly what you want when living off the land.

For dinner, I stripped the last of the meat from yesterday’s game bird and boiled up a proper stock. Made chestnut flour pasta (150g made two portions), then stirred the meat back in with wild garlic, three-cornered leek, and ground elder. Topped it with crispy hogw**d shoot for texture and bite.

It felt like a feast — and yet, I couldn’t finish it. My body’s adapting. Hunger is quieter, more efficient. I’m eating less, but fuelling better. It’s fascinating to feel the shift.

This isn’t just about food anymore. It’s about living in sync with the land.

WildBiome Day 5 – The Feasting Begins 🦌🌿
Caffeine withdrawal? Conquered. The haze has lifted and I’m feeling clear, calm, and ready to feast 🙌

Started the day with my faithful cup of dandelion coffee – warm, bitter, and somehow comforting 🌼☕
Then grazed through a wild little spread: fruit leather (elderberry, blackberry, plum & apple) paired with venison biltong – made from wild British venison and fermented apple mush. Tangy, chewy, and full of deep forest flavour.

No real hunger until later, so I saved it all up for a proper tea:
🔥 A two-game bird roast, seared in tallow, seasoned with foraged rosemary
🌹 Finished with a glossy rosehip reduction I’d been saving
🌿 On the side – a pile of African kale, dark and hearty

It looked like a Sunday roast... but wilder.
To finish? A rosehip "cordial" – just rosehip reduction, fresh water, and a generous spoon of organic honey. Sweet, sharp, and beautifully simple.

Feeling nourished in every sense.

🌿 WildBiome Project – Day 4 | SURVIVAL MODE 🔥

Day 4 eating wild, and I’m starting to adapt. The worst of the caffeine withdrawal seems to be behind me — no splitting headaches today, just a wave of fatigue mid-afternoon that had me pulling back and conserving energy.

Began the day with a brew of roasted dandelion root — earthy, bitter, and just enough to get me moving. Then I focused on preserving what I had: finished dehydrating my fruit leather, which became both my project and my lunch.

For dinner, I cooked a small pot of fresh mussels, steamed in a makeshift broth of mashed apple, wild dandelion, and ground hazelnuts. The flavors were rustic but satisfying — fuel, not flair.

Something strange is happening though: my hunger is almost... gone. No gnawing cravings, no constant search for food. Just a steady, quiet focus. Not sure if it's a survival instinct kicking in or something deeper shifting inside.

Still standing. Still adapting. Day 5 awaits. 🪵🔥
