Want to become a qualified facialist but don’t know where to start?

So many courses. So many treatments. So many different opinions about what you should learn first.

At Talk Skin Academy, the starting point is clear: build your foundations.

Our CIBTAC Level 2 Award in Facial Skincare includes:

• 13 weeks of education, with all theoretical learning delivered online through videos and accompanying workbooks.
• Support calls every other week with the educator who will also teach you at the academy.
• An online student community to ask questions and connect throughout your training.
• Six full days of hands-on training at the academy.

You’ll learn about skin, consultation, skin analysis, facial techniques, hygiene, health and safety. You’ll understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and when to adapt.

International students are welcome, wherever you’re travelling from. Complete your theory online from home, then attend the academy in person for practical training and your exam.

This is an internationally recognised CIBTAC qualification. You must successfully complete the required assessments and pass your exam to qualify.

If you plan to practise outside the UK, check the qualification, licensing and insurance requirements where you intend to work before enrolling.

The advertised price includes all course and exam fees. There are no additional course charges. Travel and accommodation, if needed, are separate.

Guess what? I bloody love the word FANTASTIC. 😅

Congestion? Fantastic.

Jowls? Fantastic.

Both? Well, guess what? FANTASTIC.

But there’s actually quite a lot of education behind my enthusiasm.

This is a little snippet from this week’s Talk Skin Method training, where we were exploring three movements around the neck, jaw and mouth.

And here’s what I want you to understand.

It’s not just WHAT your hands are doing. It’s WHY.

The pressure, pace, direction and anatomy all matter.

Gentle warmth can help soften surface sebum when preparing for extractions. Controlled movements can also be incorporated into a sculpting routine, depending on the client’s anatomy and what you’re trying to achieve.

But no single movement magically removes congestion or lifts jowls.

It’s the understanding behind your hands that makes the difference.

And that’s what we spend two full days exploring at Talk Skin Academy.

Not just learning movements, but understanding the anatomy, the skin, the systems we’re working with and how to adapt everything to the person on the bed.

You see it. You feel it. You practise it. You question it.

Until you’re no longer simply copying a movement.

You’re thinking like a facialist.

Your client is noticing more than you think.

Not necessarily consciously.

But every little detail is either adding to or deducting from the experience you’re trying so hard to create.

The beautifully prepared bed means less if the stool beside it is marked.

The immaculate room means less if the bin is overflowing.

And as we head into winter, muddy shoes and dirty stool bases are about to become a very real thing.

At Talk Skin Academy, this is the level of detail we make our therapists aware of.

Because five-star standards aren’t just about what happens during the facial.

They’re about what the client sees, feels and experiences from the moment they walk through the door.

So here’s your reminder:

Look at your treatment space through your client’s eyes.

Check the stool.
Check the floor.
Check the trolley.
Check the little things you’ve stopped noticing because you see them every day.

Add them to your daily checks.

Because all that hard work you’re putting into creating an incredible experience should be reflected in the smallest details too.

Luxury isn’t a product. It’s a feeling built one tiny detail at a time.

Bed or table? Apparently, it’s a controversial subject. 😂

Personally, I couldn’t care less what you call it.

What I DO care about is how you use it.

Is your client comfortable?
Does it support your body while you work?
Is everything positioned with a purpose?
And does your setup add to the experience or detract from it?

Because whether you call it a bed, table, couch or plinth, understanding how to use it properly is what actually matters.

Does this happen around 30–40 minutes into your facial?

Your client starts shuffling.

Their knees move.
Their hands disappear underneath their bum or lower back.
They arch or reposition their back.
They just can’t seem to fully settle.

Even though you’ve already put a bolster underneath their knees.

This is one of the first things I look at.

Because we spend so much time thinking about what happens at the TOP of the bed that we forget to properly prepare what’s happening at the bottom.

And I’m not talking about adding an indulgent foot-opening sequence.

I’m talking about positioning the body so it can comfortably settle into the bed before you begin.

Before your next facial, look at your client.

Is there obvious tension through the legs?

Are they holding themselves through the hips?

Does their lower back look comfortable and supported?

Start by positioning your bolster appropriately underneath the knees, then encourage your client to let their legs relax naturally rather than holding them rigidly together.

Don’t force their hips or legs into position. Let their individual anatomy dictate where they naturally want to fall.

Because later in your treatment, when you’re working through the neck and shoulders, applying pressure and asking the upper body to let go, you don’t want the lower body fighting to find a comfortable position.
