Balerno High School Parent Forum

Balerno High School Parent Forum A group for parents and carers of pupils at Balerno High School . We are always happy to hear from you.

The main objective of the Parent Council is to provide the link between all parents/carers and their children and the school’s management, teaching and community staff. The Parent Council represents all parents and carers so if there are any issues you don’t want to take to school staff directly you can channel your comments and/or concerns through us. You can contact any parent member via the Mem

bers page or you can submit more general feedback via our feedback form. There are a number of ways that members of the Parent Council keep up-to-date with what happening in education:
The Balerno High School Head Teacher sits on the Parent Council. Local councillors are invited along to the Parent Council meetings and are a useful conduit between the Parent Council and the Council to ensure that the parent voice of Balerno High School is heard. A Parent Council member attends the Edinburgh Consultative Committee with Parents (CCWP) with the Head Teacher. A wide range of subjects is tabled for discussion at this meeting from proposed changes in teaching methods to funding problems. Being involved in this important forum means that Balerno High School’s needs are firmly on the bigger education agenda. To help maintain links with the local community we have a member of the Balerno Community Council sitting on the Parent Council. The Chair of the Balerno High School Parent Teacher Association is a member of the PC. We keep in close contact with both the Piper organisation and the Balerno Village Trust. Members of the Parent Council also take part in workshops and training provided by the Council where this will be useful to the parent Council and school. Balerno High School Parent Council is part of the Edinburgh Parent Council Network (EPCN). There are some 170 members of the EPCN which is seen as a strong campaigning body working to ensure education funding is high on the council agenda.

There will be a public meeting on 9th July at St Joseph’s Hall to discuss the finalisation of our Local Place Plan.
Everyone is encouraged to attend if able.
If you are not able then you are encouraged to email your remarks ahead of the meeting as we are ensured these will be taken into consideration.

The Local Place Plan is a document that each area submits to the CEC. This document is referred to for any future planning and development etc.

This is your time to have your say about the future of your Balerno.

The High School is part of the Local Place Plan. Topics such as the infrastructure, transport links, community facilities etc is discussed.

Mark Galloway, the member of the Balerno Community Council leading the Local Place Plan, will be attending the next BHS Parent and Carer Council meeting.
We encourage you to attend to have your voice heard.
