Good afternoon,

We are no longer in need of these chairs at school and wondered if anyone in the village (or beyond) could make use of them?

We have around 25 (not all shown in the picture) of the larger size red chairs we use in school and 6 small infant size green chairs all looking for a new home.

πŸ’™ Something to think about πŸ’™
This is designed for children under 5 but some of the tips are appropriate for everyone.

Screens are now part of everyday family life, but for very young children, clear and predictable boundaries can help screen time feel calm rather than constant.

Our latest guide shares practical advice for families, nurseries and early years settings on supporting healthier digital habits for under-fives.

The guide covers:
β€’ Choosing age-appropriate content
β€’ Protecting bedtime routines
β€’ Keeping devices in shared spaces
β€’ Co-viewing and talking about what children see
β€’ Using simple scripts and transition warnings
β€’ Modelling balanced device use as adults

With supportive tips and realistic routines, this guide helps adults manage screen time with greater confidence.

πŸ’™ We are looking forward to welcoming our new reception children in September. While this guide is aimed at young children starting school, there are some great ideas here for people of all ages πŸ’™

Oral language plays a vital role in children’s learning, literacy and social and emotional development.

Our latest guide supports parents and educators with practical, evidence-informed strategies to help children build school-ready language skills.

The guide explores:
β€’ Building oral language through meaningful interaction
β€’ Supporting listening and attention
β€’ Growing children’s vocabulary
β€’ Sharing stories and naming feelings
β€’ Working with settings to spot and support language needs
β€’ Using evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs

With language developing rapidly between the ages of two and six, early support can make a lasting difference to children’s confidence, communication and readiness for school.

Day 3 Challenge: Watch raindrops race β˜”οΈ

I recorded a video for this one yesterday when I arrived in school but then the sun made an appearance. Today, the rain seems to be here to stay for a bit.

🌿It is that time of year again where we join The Wildlife Trusts for their 30 Days Wild from The Wildlife Trusts

🌱Every day, including weekends, we will set a different challenge for our children and families to encourage everyone to engage in activities outside or take the time to consider wildlife in their local area.

πŸͺ΅We will also be hosting some wild activities at playtime or lunchtime too so that the children can get involved during the school day.

🌲Each year, we build on the one before and in 2025 we introduced wild passports and stickers which will be making a comeback for 2026.

☘️This is our 5th year taking part so to go even bigger and wilder than ever before, we are also hoping to order badges from Pawprint Family for the children who complete a different wild challenge every day.

πŸͺ΄The challenge starts tomorrow! Will you be joining us? Check back later today to see what the challenge is for Day 1

Minecraft continues to be a highly popular platform for children, combining creativity, problem-solving and social interaction.

While the game can offer positive opportunities for learning and play, features such as public servers, multiplayer modes and in-game communication can create safeguarding challenges.

Our latest guide supports educators and parents in understanding these risks and helping children play more safely.

The guide explores:
β€’ Public server communication and contact with unknown players
β€’ Griefing, disruptive behaviour and online conflict
β€’ In-game spending and subscription costs
β€’ Addictive gameplay loops and balanced screen time
β€’ Safer settings, private servers and suitable game modes

With clear, practical advice, the guide helps adults set boundaries, encourage safer choices and support responsible Minecraft use.

We had a couple of visitors on the playground this morning - I wonder if they were looking for a school place for September? πŸ¦†

Or maybe, as today was school photo day at Cosgrove, and the weather was so lovely that the photos were taken outside, they were just waiting their turn in the spotlight?

Whatever brought the ducks to the playground, the children were fascinated by the visitors who just made themselves right at home.
