Funny how something you start for one reason can end up giving you a s**t tonne more.
I threw myself into training during a pretty s**tty period of my life.
After returning from backpacking I felt lost, directionless and depressed.
It didn’t magically fix everything.
But it gave me something positive to focus on.
It helped rebuild lost confidence.
It helped me learn discipline.
It gave me direction.
And a career that’s allowed me to spend the last 18+ years helping other people change their lives through fitness as well.
But somewhere along the way, my relationship with training changed.
For years, I was happy to build my life around it.
Now I’m much more interested in building fitness around my life.
Becoming a dad was probably the biggest shift.
I still love training hard.
I still care about how I look.
But I want more from training now.
I want energy.
I want a healthy head.
I want to be strong and capable.
And I want to give myself the best possible chance of doing all of that for a very long time.
Looking back, I started training because I needed something in my life to change…
I never realised how much of my life it would end up shaping.
