🦉🎨 Another amazing evening with Wildlife Drawing! 🎨🦉

Last night, we were delighted to be back working with the wonderful team at Wildlife Drawing for another fantastic session celebrating our incredible owl ambassadors! 💚

This time, four of our feathered friends stepped into the spotlight as models for the evening:

🦉 Minerva – our beautiful little owl
🦉 Otis – our gorgeous long-eared owl
🦉 Lydia – our lovely barn owl
🦉 Zeus – our magnificent Eurasian eagle owl

All four were absolutely amazing models, giving the artists a wonderful opportunity to observe them closely, capture their unique characters and appreciate the beauty of these incredible birds. ✏️❤️

The evening wasn’t just about art, though! We also enjoyed some fascinating conversations about owls in mythology, exploring how these remarkable birds have featured in stories, folklore and beliefs throughout history.

It’s always a pleasure to work with Wildlife Drawing, bringing together art, wildlife and education in such a wonderful way. Events like these are a brilliant reminder that our animal ambassadors can inspire people in so many different ways, from creativity to curiosity about the natural world. 🌍🦉

Today we’re celebrating our wonderful friend and colleague Grace from Reptiles Etc.! 🥳❤️

We’re lucky enough to work with Grace regularly, particularly on filming jobs, where her expertise really shines! 🎥🐍 It’s always a pleasure working alongside someone who shares our passion for animals and the industry we love.

But beyond the professional side of things, we’re even luckier to be able to call Grace a close friend. Having people in this industry who you can work with, learn from, laugh with and genuinely call friends is something really special. 🥰

Running an animal experience business properly involves far more costs than many people realise.

When you book with us, you’re not just paying for the time spent at your event. You’re helping cover the ongoing costs of caring for our animals and running the business safely, responsibly and professionally.

These costs include:

• High-quality food and specialist diets
• Bedding, housing and enclosure maintenance
• Veterinary care, vaccinations, medication and insurance
• Regular health checks and welfare monitoring
• Safe, secure and suitable transport
• Cleaning and disinfecting equipment
• Staff wages, training and event preparation
• Fuel, vehicle maintenance and travel time
• Public liability insurance and business costs
• Equipment replacement, repairs and upkeep
• Licensing, administration and booking management
• Time spent preparing, setting up, supervising and packing away each event

Our staff are trained professionals with many years of combined experience working with animals. They understand how to handle each species safely, recognise signs of stress or illness, and ensure that every animal is treated appropriately throughout an event.

We also have to allow for the unexpected. Animals can become unwell, equipment can break, fuel prices can rise and veterinary bills can be extremely expensive. We need to make sure we have the resources available to deal with these situations properly.

We never cut corners when it comes to animal welfare. Our animals are not props — they are part of our family, and their health, safety and wellbeing will always come first. That means providing the right food, care, housing, enrichment, veterinary treatment and rest, even when those costs continue to increase.

Exotic Explorers also offers a wide variety of animals. This allows us to give each animal ambassador regular rest and ensures that no small group of animals is expected to attend every event. It also means we can accommodate customers with a range of different animal preferences. Maintaining a larger, varied collection of animals, along with their individual care requirements, housing, diets, enrichment and veterinary needs, naturally comes at a higher cost.

There may be companies offering similar experiences at lower prices. Some may be run by passionate animal lovers, but not necessarily by trained industry professionals with the same level of experience, resources or operating costs. In some cases, cheaper prices may be achieved through lower-cost diets or compromises in other areas of care. Having only a few animals that attend every event without sufficient rest would, of course, be cheaper — but that is not who we are or how we choose to operate.

We also want to be able to pay our staff fairly and ensure that every event is run safely, calmly and professionally. This takes time and preparation before, during and after each booking.

We understand that our prices may seem higher than they were a few years ago, but the cost of running the business has increased significantly. We do our best to raise prices gradually and keep our services as affordable as possible, while still operating responsibly and sustainably.

By booking with us, you’re supporting a small business that is committed to doing things properly, putting animal welfare first and providing a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone.

🦉 MEET ZEUS! 🦉

We thought it was about time we introduced the newest member of the Exotic Explorers family… Zeus, our Eurasian eagle owl! ❤️

Zeus is now almost 6 months old and joined us a few weeks ago. He came to us from a wonderful owner who has spent his entire life working with animals and had given Zeus an absolutely fantastic start.

Sadly, due to financial pressures, his previous owner has been forced to take a job outside of the animal industry. It’s a bittersweet story, and one that highlights something that is often forgotten — just how much people sacrifice to work with animals and build a career in an industry they truly love.

But that’s probably a post for another day.

What matters is that Zeus has arrived with us having already had an excellent foundation, and we are incredibly grateful to his previous owner for everything he has done for him. ❤️

Zeus has also arrived at a particularly important time for our owl family. Following the sudden loss of our amazing Socrates, Neve was left without her long-standing companion. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better outcome — Zeus and Neve have already formed a wonderful bond, and it has been beautiful watching him help her heal a little piece of that broken heart. 🥹❤️

And what an impressive owl he is!

🦉 Eurasian eagle owls are the largest species of owl on the planet, and Zeus is already showing us just how incredible this species can be. He has a huge personality, an impressive presence and, despite being so young, is already proving to be a fantastic ambassador.

He has already been smashing his first few events with us, joining the team at Freshers Fairs and school bookings, and we can’t wait for more of you to meet him over the coming months.

Welcome to the Exotic Explorers family, Zeus. ❤️

🌍🐾 WORLD ANIMAL DAY 🐾🌍

Today is World Animal Day — a day to celebrate the incredible animals we share our planet with and, more importantly, to remind ourselves of the responsibility we have to protect and care for them. ❤️

At Exotic Explorers, animals are at the heart of everything we do. From tiny insects and amphibians to reptiles, birds, mammals and everything in between, every one of our animal ambassadors has a story to tell and an important role to play in educating the next generation. 🦉🐍🦎🐸🐰

We believe that the best way to encourage people to care about wildlife is to help them understand it. Our animals allow children, young people and adults to experience wildlife up close while learning about their natural behaviours, habitats, conservation and the threats facing species around the world.

But World Animal Day isn’t just about celebrating the animals we love. It’s also about recognising our responsibility towards them.

That means providing the highest standards of welfare, respecting natural behaviours, creating enriching environments, making responsible choices and ensuring that the animals in our care are always put first. ❤️

Our animals are not here for entertainment — they are educators.

They are ambassadors for their species, helping us teach people about wildlife, conservation, animal welfare and the importance of protecting the natural world. Every animal has their own personality, needs and boundaries, and those are respected at every event we attend.

Every encounter is an opportunity to inspire someone to look at the natural world a little differently — and perhaps leave with a greater understanding and appreciation for the incredible animals we share our planet with.

💔 Remembering our amazing Thatch 🕷️

Earlier this week, we sadly said goodbye to a very special member of the Exotic Explorers family — our beautiful Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird-Eating Tarantula, Thatch.

Thatch had been in Ben’s care for an incredible 16 years — twice as long as Exotic Explorers has been running. That means she was part of Ben’s life long before Exotic Explorers became the business it is today, and she has played a huge part in our journey.

She was certainly a lady with a fierce personality! 😅🕷️ Thatch always had plenty of attitude and was never afraid to let you know exactly what she thought. But that strong personality made her such an amazing ambassador for tarantulas and an unforgettable character to everyone who met her.

Over the years, Thatch helped us show so many people that these incredible animals deserve respect and understanding. She gave countless people the opportunity to see tarantulas in a completely different way and helped us educate them about these fascinating animals.

Sixteen years is an incredible amount of time to share with an animal, and saying goodbye is never easy. Thatch leaves behind so many memories and will always hold a very special place in Ben’s heart and in the history of Exotic Explorers.

🕷️ Thank you for 16 amazing years, Thatch. You were certainly one of a kind, and you will be missed more than you know. ❤️

🎃👻 SPOOKY SEASON HAS ARRIVED! 👻🎃

The nights are getting darker, the pumpkins are coming out and Halloween is officially creeping closer… which can only mean one thing — spooky season has arrived at Exotic Explorers! 🕷️🦇

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be celebrating some of the amazing animals that people often associate with Halloween and the mysterious side of the natural world. From owls and snakes to skunks, spiders, bats and plenty of other incredible creatures, there’s so much more to these animals than the spooky stereotypes! 🦉🐍🦨🕷️

As always, our Halloween season is about education, conservation and animal welfare. We want to show you why these animals deserve our respect and understanding, rather than fear. ❤️🌍
