Something for families 😃

Big Family Weekend is spread across four festival zones, all within 5–10 minutes' walk of each other. Here's how it works 👇

💚Market Place Zone – street theatre, circus, walkabout acts and comedy right in the heart of the city

💙Cathedral Zone – performances on the forecourt and in Minster Gardens, plus community acts and creative workshops

🩷Kirkgate Zone – pop-up poetry, stories, 10-minute dramas in local pubs and shops, plus the Kirkgate Street Party on Saturday evening

💜Ripon Spa Gardens – open-air theatre, live music, the Little Bird Artisan Market stage on Sunday, and space to relax with a picnic

No big plan needed – just wander between zones, catch whatever catches your eye and enjoy the atmosphere at your own pace. Everything's free and most of it's outdoors.

Parents and guardians please take time to talk to your children about the dangers of water.

Water might look safe, especially on warm days, but it can be extremely cold and dangerous. Jumping or diving in can lead to cold water shock, which can quickly put lives at risk.

Encourage children to be aware of their surroundings to look out for warning signs, safety equipment, and to understand that hazards aren’t always visible.

Help them understand that accidents can happen quickly and quietly around water, and why it’s so important to stay close to a responsible adult at all times.

If someone is in trouble, make sure they know not to enter the water. Instead, tell them to call 999 and ask for the Fire Service (inland) or the Coastguard (at the coast), encourage the person to float on their back, and look for something they can throw to help from a safe place.
