Join us for a morning of networking, learning and meaningful conversation as we explore the experiences of both ADHD employers and employees in the workplace.
This event is designed to help employers better understand their workforce, improve morale and productivity, and gain valuable insight into creating a more inclusive working environment. You'll also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals, share experiences and exchange ideas!

Last week, Damian hosted a welfare session all about self- sabotage with an aim to understand what it is, why people do it, the impact and explore strategies to stop self sabotaging!

The group took part in an activity called 'Walk the line'. Using a metaphor for your journey throughout life, interns were split into 2 teams - one team followed a straight path of toilet paper whilst the other team followed a path of ripped up toilet paper. The group came to the conclusion that both are valid and okay paths and will lead you to somewhere, even if those paths look different.

One of our interns, S.No said "Staying on the straight path is just you conforming to expectations set by others instead of exploring other opportunities".

Such an interesting session!

Two of our lovely interns took a moment to write thank you cards to Virgin Media 02 and for their support at our recent reverse jobs fair!

How amazing were our Supported Interns at the Steps to Success, Careers Event at Darley Street in Bradford! ✨

They helped with the set up of the stall and spoke with young people, parents/carers and other services about what Coleman Training Development offers and the programme they attend.

They also talked about the work experience they have attended, the skills they have learnt and the support they have received over their time at CTD.

An example of how we support our interns with their learning on skills such as, how to give and follow precise instructions. For this session, they gave each other verbal instructions only, on the process of making a cheese sandwich! 🍞🧀

Recently some of our Pre Interns welcomed Mark from Chrome Angel, Graham from Angel Trains, and Catherine Kingdom from Community Rail Lancashire for an engaging session on Serious Games; interactive technology-based games designed to educate as well as entertain. Using tablets and VR headsets, the interns explored games developed to train employees through realistic workplace scenarios. 🎮

Rail 200 Guard Challenge was developed in collaboration with Angel Trains and South Western Rail to enable anyone to experience the role of the Guard in a fun ‘arcade’ style game at railway 200 events. It has fun facts about railway history, shows the importance of the role of Guards in supporting customers - the faster you react to customer’s needs the higher your score!

The simulations focused on situations a train ticket officer may encounter during their daily duties, such as dealing with unruly passengers and answering frequently asked questions from travellers. The session particularly resonated with the interns because they had recently completed extensive rail travel training, where they observed a variety of roles within the railway industry, including ticket officers.

In the workshop we discussed how these games are developed and the roles involved, as well as exploring how this technology can be used to create highly immersive and interactive experiences to safely practice real world scenarios. We finished by talking to an AI character in the game who is causing a disruption on the train and you need to handle the situation as a Guard.

Before this experience, many had not considered how interests in games development and technology could have practical, real-world applications within the rail sector. It was a great session for our Pre Interns!

Recently, our Pre Internship group went on a trip to Melrose Interiors in Wibsey to find out about what they do as a company and the sort of jobs they offer! 🔎

The managing director, Ronnie, went through a presentation with our interns about how Melrose strive to reduce landfill use through their waste management system that helps to protect the environment by conserving resources.

He also showed them examples of products that they make using recycled and reused materials before giving them a tour of the office as well as the different floors of the warehouse.

Ronnie explained the entire process of making and shipping off rugs and carpets from the sewing team up to the pickers and packers who send off deliveries to customers.

We were so glad to hear that the feedback from the interns was very positive with a lot of them leaving the trip saying that they would really like to work or do some work experience at Melrose as it sounds like a great place to work! ✨

At CTD, we believe it’s important to live our values, so we come together as a team once a month for training or team building. 💪

We train in areas of support for our clients and ensure all staff are up to date with current disability regulations or support, safeguarding, national regulations, local current affairs and much more!

In order for a team to work well together it’s important for each person to have an understanding of all other roles in the provision and how each role fits with others.

This was an activity where each person had to write the tasks that fall within their role onto post-it-notes and put them into the area marked with their job title.

It highlighted team work with some working together in the same job role to be time efficient and collaborate and some that worked independently realising the others had already written those tasks too!

Understanding just how much each person did within their role was another great moment of learning as quite often it can appear that someone has an easy job doing basic tasks when we don’t realise what goes on behind the scenes.

This was a great exercise, bringing staff together and strengthening the team to move forward more collaboratively.

Some of our interns here at CTD recently saw their creativity take centre stage after partnering with Community Rail Lancashire on an important rail safety campaign.

As part of the project, our young people learned about the railways, the importance of safe travel, and how public messages can make a difference. They then created a series of colourful canvases inspired by the railway and key safety themes.

Several months later, the group was delighted to discover that their artwork had been transformed into professional posters as part of the wider campaign. Our interns were invited to Blackburn to see the finished displays in place, where their designs are now helping to remind the public about rail safety.

Seeing their work displayed in a public setting was a powerful moment for everyone involved. It gave our young people a real sense of pride, achievement and belonging.
Most importantly, the project showed our young people that their voices matter, their ideas can create change, and their contribution to the community is both valued and important. The experience reinforced confidence, encouraged self expression, and inspired future involvement in community projects.
