English Tuition
I am happy to tutor students in English from Primary right through to A2 Level. I have previously helped students in their Year 6 SATs, KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 Level. I will produce work and activities for my Primary and KS3 pupils. I expect my GCSE and A Level students to bring their work with them so that we can discuss anything they are struggling with in class and then I will p
rovide extra activities to develop their skills in that area. History Tuition
I usually tutor students in History from KS3 through to AS/A2. I have previously worked with students at KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 Level. Having studied a range of periods during my degree and tutored students studying a variety of syllabuses I have a good breadth of historical knowledge. I use a variety of resources, including the net, podcasts and Apps, but I often focus on the textbooks and classwork my students bring with them so that their learning is relevant to their school work. Study; Revision & Exam Skills
When students start their GCSE or A Level programmes they are often faced with new academic challenges and sometimes struggle to cope with this new way of learning, especially coming up to the exam period! I am offering single sessions, though students are more than welcome to sign up for several if needed, to help students develop their study, revision and exam skills. We will discuss what type of learner they are and how best they can utilise their time leading up to those important papers. I have found that discussing Exam Skills in a one to one environment really helps calm students' nerves and gives them an opportunity to express their fears. Progression Advice
Having worked in a Sixth Form Careers Department, I understand the pressure felt by many students to make big decisions about their future and that once that decision is made, how to achieve it. Whilst I am NOT a qualified Careers Adviser, I do hold a certificate in Careers Guidancein Education and can offer single, one to one sessions
in the following areas:
Personal Statement Writing
Writing a Personal Statement is often the hardest task in any application process. It's particularly
difficult if you have never written one before! If you are applying as a mature student or for any
reason need some extra help I am happy to go through the Dos and Don'ts of Personal Statement Writing. However I will not be prepared to produce anything for you and therefore expect you to arrive at the session with a first draft or some noted ideas that we can then discuss! Understanding the UCAS Application form for Mature Students
Filling out a UCAS application form can seem like a moutainous task to any student, so if you are applying a little later than others you may not have the support of your school or college. If you would like some help understanding the form or some moral support as you begin to fill it in, I can help! Producing CVs & Completing Job Applications
Writing a CV or completing a job application for the first time can be daunting especially as you want to get it right! Many students will have the help of their school or college Careers Department, however if for any reason you do not I am happy to go through these processes with you in one of my single Progression Sessions. Once you have gone away and re-drafted your CV or application I will also be happy to check it for spelling and grammar free of charge.
