There’s more than one way to be tired after having a baby.

Did you know there are actually 7 different types of rest — and in those early weeks, everyone in the family may need a bit of each.

Physical rest — sleep, yes, but also sitting down, lying down, not rushing recovery and letting someone else do the jobs.

Mental rest — fewer decisions. Someone else deciding what’s for dinner, remembering what needs buying or keeping track of appointments.

Sensory rest — babies are noisy, homes get busy and everyone can feel touched-out. Ten minutes somewhere quiet, putting your phone down or having a shower alone can help.

Emotional rest — being able to say this is hard without someone immediately trying to fix it. This matters for both parents.

Social rest — spending time with people who leave you feeling better, not people you have to host. It’s also completely fine to say no to visitors.

Creative rest — fresh air, music, reading a few pages of a book, sitting in the garden. Something small that isn’t feeding, nappies or washing.

Spiritual rest — whatever gives you a sense of connection or meaning. That might be faith, nature, meditation, community or simply a little quiet.

4 tiny things to try in the postpartum weeks:

1. Take ten minutes completely alone when you can — no baby, no phone, no jobs.
2. Give each other a protected lie-down, bath, walk or shower each day — even if it’s only 15 minutes.
3. Take decisions off the table. Repeat easy meals, say no to things and keep plans minimal.
4. Notice what kind of tired you are. Sometimes what you need isn’t sleep — it’s quiet, company, space, fresh air or simply not being needed for ten minutes.

Save this while you’re pregnant — it might be useful at 3am one day!

"Nobody told me introducing solids was about so much more than just food."*

We spend so much time thinking about what babies should eat that we often miss everything else.

Learning to sit safely.

Exploring new textures.

Building confidence around food.

Knowing what's normal.

Understanding the difference between gagging and choking.

Creating relaxed family mealtimes without pressure.

Introducing solids isn't about getting it perfect.

It's about helping your baby build a healthy relationship with food from the very beginning.

That's exactly why we created Fun with Food a relaxed, practical workshop where you can ask questions, build confidence and leave knowing where to start.

Plus you'll receive our exclusive e-book covering everything discussed on the day.

My feed is unsurprisingly full of birth workers and birth companies and I'm noticing just how many seem to believe if you have the facts then you are all set up for birth. This doesn't sit well with me, so often parents are often taught about labour, what the stages are and when to ring the hospital. What pain relief is available and what might happen if plans need to change.

All of that is important of course, but I wonder how many parents are ever taught how to work 'with' labour.

How to recognise what their body is trying to do why they suddenly want the lights lower, the room quieter or fewer people talking. Why breathing, movement and feeling safe aren't just "nice ideas", but part of how our bodies have supported birth for thousands of years.

I don't believe understanding birth is about memorising information but I do believe when you understand how you work with your body and baby it can be a game changer.

It's never too early to start thinking about introducing solids.

In fact, many parents tell us they wish they'd felt more prepared before those first tastes arrived.

Fun with Food has been designed to give you the confidence to enjoy weaning, rather than worrying whether you're doing it "right".

This relaxed, interactive workshop covers everything you need to know before you begin, including:

• Signs your baby is ready for solids
• Baby-led and spoon feeding
• Choking, gagging and weaning safety
• Changes in milk feeds
• Top tips to help you get started

You'll also receive an exclusive e-book to take home, bringing together everything we cover on the day so you have a trusted resource to refer back to.

Whether you're a first-time parent, a grandparent wanting to support your family, or simply looking for clear, evidence-based guidance without judgement, we'd love to welcome you.
