Every sentence has two main parts — the subject and the verb.

• The subject is who or what the sentence is about.

• The verb tells us what the subject is doing or what is happening.

👉 For example:

The dog barks.

• Subject: The dog (who the sentence is about)

• Verb: barks (what the dog did)

Flexible partitioning means breaking a number into parts in different ways to make it easier to work with.

Let’s look at the number 768.

We can partition it in lots of ways, depending on what we’re trying to do:

1. Standard partitioning:
• 700 + 60 + 8

2. Flexible partitioning – other ways:
• 500 + 200 + 60 + 8
• 700 + 50 + 18
• 768 = 400 + 300 + 60 + 8
• 768 = 700 + 68

Each of these is still equal to 768, but they might make some problems easier to solve.

🐑 What is the Sheep Pen Rule?
It’s based on the idea that speech marks are like a pen that keeps the sheep (the spoken words) inside.

Here's how it works:

• The speech marks (or inverted commas) are the fence.

• The spoken words are the sheep.

• Everything that is actually said aloud must be inside the speech marks.

Example:

Sarah said, “I love playing in the garden.”

• The spoken words are: I love playing in the garden.

• These are the sheep, and they are inside the pen (the speech marks).
