In this week's brass lesson the children were confident enough to try a note change. They practiced playing the same note C before changing to D. They are sounding better and better each week as their notes get clearer and their timings improve.

“This week the horse riders knew exactly what to do and were very excited to go and get their ponies ready and take them into the arena. Then after a practice walk and steer, it was straight into trotting. They practiced rising and everybody has definitely improved. Once again it was over far too quickly and everyone can’t wait to go next week.”

Yesterday the children took part in an interschool cluster 5 a side football tournament at Harper green school. Year 3 and 4 children from twelve schools in the local area competed against each other throughout the afternoon. After winning both the games in their heats, the Kearsley West team managed to win their semi-final, and then ultimately the final to lift the trophy and be declared champions. They also showed an immense amount of team spirit and sportsmanship whilst representing the school. We couldn’t be more proud.

As part of their Science learning Year 5 have been studying the Solar system. They have learned about the different planets that inhabit our Solar system and how they move around the sun. To help them to understand they took models of all of the planets and the sun into the yard and took turns moving and spinning around the sun just like the planets. They then talked about how differently they moved, why it took longer to move around the sun for some planets and why the conditions on all of the planets are so different.
