GCSE group sessions starting September ✏️

We are now confirming spaces for small, supportive GCSE groups at The Discovery Barn in Lanivet.

These sessions are designed for Year 10 and Year 11 learners who may benefit from calm, clear explanations, regular support and a confidence-building approach.

Monday
4:00–5:00pm — Year 10 GCSE English Language
5:00–6:00pm — Year 11 GCSE English Language

Wednesday
4:00–5:00pm — Year 10 GCSE Maths
5:00–6:00pm — Year 11 GCSE Maths Foundation

Thursday
4:00–5:00pm — Year 10 GCSE Science
5:00–6:00pm — Year 11 GCSE Science

📍 The Discovery Barn, Lanivet
⏰ 60-minute sessions
👥 Maximum 6 learners
💷 £15 per session

Learning doesn’t always look like sitting at a desk 🌿

Sometimes it looks like reading instructions.
Measuring ingredients.
Checking a timer.
Following steps.
Solving a problem.
Talking through an idea.
Trying again when something doesn’t quite work.

Practical learning can create so many opportunities for English, Maths, communication, confidence and independence in a way that feels meaningful.

For some children and young people, learning feels more possible when it has a purpose.

That’s why “doing” can be such an important route back into education 💛

GCSE results day 💛

To every young person receiving results today — well done.

Whatever is written on that piece of paper, it does not define your worth, your potential or what you can do next.

For some learners, GCSEs represent years of hard work.
For others, they may reflect a really difficult season, disrupted learning, anxiety, school avoidance, SEND needs, illness or circumstances outside of their control.

There is always a next step.

Whether you’re celebrating, disappointed, unsure or overwhelmed, take a breath.

You are more than your grades.

And to parents and carers supporting young people today — be gentle with them, and with yourselves too 🌿

A little behind-the-scenes update 🌿

Things have been a little quieter on here recently, but definitely not quiet behind the scenes.

We’ve recently got the keys to our second barn at The Discovery Barn, and we’ve been busy starting to shape the space ready for secondary-aged learners and young people who may need a more personalised route through education.

This space will allow us to develop more provision for older learners, including academic support, GCSE and Functional Skills, practical learning, creative projects, technology, life skills and interest-led learning.

There’s still lots to do, but it’s exciting to see the next part of The Discovery Barn slowly coming together.

We are currently developing different routes of support for children and young people through EdTucate and The Discovery Barn.

This may include:

🌱 one-to-one tuition
🌱 small GCSE groups
🌱 online provision
🌱 Functional Skills support
🌱 AP / EOTAS / EHCP-linked provision
🌱 practical and interest-led learning
🌱 calm, SEND-aware support in Lanivet, Bodmin.

Our aim is to offer flexible, thoughtful education for learners who may need something more personalised than a standard route.

Practical learning can be a powerful route back in 🌿

For some children and young people, education starts to feel more possible when learning is practical, purposeful and connected to real life.

This might look like cooking.
It might look like making.
It might look like designing, building, planning, problem-solving or creating something from an idea.

At The Discovery Barn, practical learning can support:

Online provision can still be calm, structured and personal 🌿

For some learners, online support is the most manageable way to access education.
This might be because of anxiety, EBSA, SEND, gaps in learning, reduced attendance, location, health needs or the need for a more flexible approach.

At EdTucate, online provision can include:

Every child’s route through education looks different.

Some children need a little extra tuition to build confidence.
Some need support with GCSEs or Functional Skills.
Some need online provision that can fit around their current circumstances.
Some need a calmer, more personalised space to access education.
Some need practical, interest-led learning to help them reconnect.
Some need support linked to AP, EOTAS or EHCP provision.

At EdTucate and The Discovery Barn, we are building different routes of support so that children and young people can access education in a way that feels more manageable, meaningful and appropriate for them.
