Paula Rajaratnam - Midlife Redesigned Women in midlife don’t need fixing, they need direction.

I help women in the in-between reconnect with who they are now, get clear on what’s next, and start moving toward it with self-trust and confidence.

Was blessed to catch this little guy sitting in a tree whilst walking this morning. Didn’t even fly away. Happily sat and sang.

Do you know what you want at a soul level? This is a question that’s been sitting with me for a while. I’ve fallen down some big rabbit holes in my life and this current one feels quite life changing.

Over the past few days I completely switched off, numbed out and just sat and binged Netflix! Not the best way to spend a weekend but I feel it had to be done. I questioned everything, I’m still questioning everything. And I don’t have answers.

At first I thought “well that’s not good enough” how am I supposed to coach women in their next chapter if I don’t even have my own s**t together. Who am I to be talking??

Then I realised, I am my clients, I am in a similar position to many women who are going through some transition or other.

This morning I woke up, the sun was shining and instead of staying in bed I headed to the pool for a swim. I then sat in the sun and did a little guided meditation.

Not big steps, no huge realisations, no answers to my questions but a small shift, one day, hour, minute at a time.

I still don’t know any more than I did a couple of days ago but I feel a little better.

Remember you are beautiful, special and stronger than you think.

How often do we mistake being needed for belonging?

We become the reliable one. The helpful one. The one who says yes. The one who checks everyone else is okay before considering what she might need herself.

And somewhere along the way, we begin to believe that our place in other people’s lives depends on how much of ourselves we are willing to give away.

I’ve been reflecting on this recently because I’ve realised how much guilt I carry around creating a life that works for me. Guilt for resting. Guilt for having freedom. Guilt for doing something enjoyable when someone else is working. Guilt for saying no, changing my mind or choosing myself.

Nobody is standing over me telling me I’m not allowed to take a break or sit with a cup of tea and a book. The pressure is coming from within me.

But internal pressure doesn’t appear from nowhere. It is often built from years of expectations, comparison and the belief that being a “good” woman means always putting ourselves last.

Eventually, we become exhausted not only from everything we are doing, but from constantly questioning whether we are allowed to want something different.

Maybe burnout isn’t always a sign that we need to become better at managing our time.

Maybe it is sometimes a sign that we have been trying to earn love, approval and belonging by giving too much of ourselves away.

And maybe the next chapter begins when we stop asking, “What does everyone else need from me?”

And begin asking, “What would it look like to belong without abandoning myself?”

If you recognise yourself in this and you’re tired of trying to work through it alone, message me privately. We can have a gentle, no-pressure conversation about what’s coming up for you and what your next step might be.

Midlife is not too late! One of the biggest lies women absorb is that it’s too late.

Too late to change. Too late to start over. Too late to build something meaningful. Too late to rediscover yourself. Too late to take up space. Too late to trust yourself.

But what if midlife is actually the beginning of the most honest chapter of your life?

Not the easiest chapter. But possibly the truest.

Because by this stage of life, many women are no longer willing to betray themselves just to keep everyone else comfortable.

They begin asking deeper questions.

What do I actually want? What matters now? What kind of life feels meaningful to me? Who am I underneath all the roles I’ve carried?

And yes, those questions can feel uncomfortable. But they can also become the doorway back to yourself.

Midlife isn’t the ending. It’s often the moment women finally begin listening to themselves properly.

And that can become incredibly powerful.

I think a lot of women underestimate how brave it is to completely rebuild your life in midlife.

To question old beliefs. To walk away from what no longer aligns. To start again emotionally, spiritually, or professionally.

That takes courage.

Especially when other people don’t fully understand the changes you’re making.

Midlife growth isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it looks like quiet decisions. Boundaries. Healing. Self-trust.

Sometimes it looks like finally choosing yourself after decades of choosing everyone else.

And that deserves to be honoured.

What’s one small thing that always makes your day feel a little better?

There’s a very specific kind of exhaustion that comes from constantly holding yourself together while trying to reinvent your life.

Especially in midlife.

You’re navigating hormonal changes, emotional shifts, identity changes, responsibilities, relationships… and at the same time trying to work out who you are now.

That’s a lot for one nervous system.

Which is why so many women feel overwhelmed, emotional, unmotivated, or disconnected from themselves.

Not because they’re lazy. Not because they’ve failed.

But because they’ve been carrying so much for so long.

Sometimes healing in midlife isn’t about becoming “better.”

Sometimes it’s simply learning how to come back home to yourself.

Midlife can feel incredibly lonely when your outer life no longer reflects your inner world.

You start craving depth. Meaning. Connection. Freedom.

And suddenly the things that once felt “normal” don’t fit anymore.

The conversations. The routines. The expectations. The version of yourself you spent years performing.

It’s not that you’re broken. It’s that you’re changing.

And change has a way of making us question everything before we finally start trusting ourselves again.

Sometimes the woman you’re becoming requires you to let go of the life you’ve outgrown.

Even if you can’t fully see what comes next yet.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this week?

The women I work with don’t need fixing.

The more conversations I have with women in midlife, the more I realise something important.

These women do not need fixing.

They’re intelligent. Self-aware. Capable. Deeply thoughtful.

Many of them have spent years supporting everyone else. Holding families together. Building careers. Managing households. Being dependable.

But somewhere in all of that… they lost connection with themselves.

Not because they failed. But because life became about responsibility rather than alignment.

The work I do isn’t about telling women who they should become.

It’s about helping them reconnect with:

their own voice
their own energy
their own emotional needs
their own truth

So they can start making decisions from self-trust instead of fear, guilt, pressure, or obligation.

That changes everything.
