Day 4 of
Here’s a testimonial from one of my students.
In my opinion, in order for a child to succeed in their learning, they need to have a good rapport and a positive relationship with their teacher/tutor.
Without this, a child is likely to disengage, disrupt others and simply lose out on their own learning journey.
Here is an example from my experience growing up:
Mainly in secondary school, if I had a teacher I disliked then I automatically disliked their lesson. I remember my History teacher constantly praising the same students every lesson and because it was never me who received any praise, I didn’t really engage. I didn’t like the subject which is no surprise considering I wasn’t a fan of my teacher.
However, in RE, I had 2 teachers and I absolutely loved them both. I was so interested in learning about different religions and not just the staple ones but also Buddhism etc.
My passion for learning this subject soared.
Why? 2 reasons: I had a positive relationship with both my RE teachers and I was really interested in RE.
Out of these 2 subjects, have a guess at which one I chose to study more of for my GCSEs.
Comment below what you think👇🏻

Honestly, I am so appreciative of the feedback that my students and their parents and families give me.
To hear that I’ve made a difference to a child’s life even if it’s the smallest of things, this is what makes me happy.
Feedback is one of the ways that I can improve my tutor business so whether it’s a positive or a constructive comment, I will take it happily.
At the end of the day, if my student or their parents aren’t happy with something, I would much rather than tell me as soon as possible so that I can do everything in my power to make their tutor lessons better.
Without feedback, I wouldn’t know whether or not I was delivering a good and outstanding service.
I regularly reflect on each of my tutor lessons in order to identify what is going well, what I can do more of and what I may need to change either slightly or completely.
This is why every 3 months, I send out a quick feedback form to all my students and their families so that I can continually improve my service - it literally takes no more than 5 minutes to complete.

Welcome to another:
RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT
Here are 2 resources that my students have loved and have often begged to play during their tutor sessions >>> BANANAGRAMS + BOGGLE
Growing up, I used to play Boggle with my parents and siblings every weekend. We loved it. So when I found it during a shopping spree, I knew I had to buy it and use it with my students in their tutor sessions.
I found that for my students who were in Year 4 - Year 6, this is a resource that could really push them with their vocabulary. We created rules together that sometimes changed depending on what we were focusing on during their session including how many minutes we would set for each round but we mainly stuck to words with a minimum of 3 letters.
Boggle is a lot more challenging as you have to find words that are made up of the letters that are next to each other.
My students have really enjoyed and loved this game.
Then there’s Bananagrams (a mouthful when you say it out loud😂) which once again is a favourite resource of mine and my students.
Bananagrams have their own set rules where if you use all the letters you were given at the start to make multiple different words that connected to each other then you’d say a word which meant that everyone playing the game had to take another letter. All the letters are face down so no cheating is allowed😂🙈.
It’s basically like scrabble but without the board and instead of connecting each other’s words, you create your own.
Sometimes we would play till there were barely any letters left or we would set ourselves a time limit.
Trust me when I say that even as the tutor, both Boggle and Bananagrams can be a challenge but that’s ok as it shows children that adults don’t actually know everything (sorry to let that secret out😂).
I have found that both Boggle and Bananagrams can be a really good starter or finisher to my students’ sessions as it gets their minds thinking but in a fun and practical way.
A way to move this forward is to use the words that are made in either game and to create some silly/sensible sentences with them. From here, you can work on expanding the sentence to make it longer.

Here is a testimonial from an old client of mine back when I first started my tutoring business in 2022.
I remember this child was in Year 1 and really struggling with her understandings of Maths and English basics. We focused primarily on number bonds and phonics to begin with which helped to boost her confidence.
I remember the first practice phonics test we did together and though she tried her best, she found it really challenging and scored quite a low mark. A few months later, after a lot of practice with sounding out the letters and blending the sounds together using flashcards, whiteboards, fun games, play doh and reading CVC books, she made so much progress. When we did the practice phonics test again, she not only scored more than her first attempt but she got full marks!!!
It just shows that with consistent practice even if it is just 5-10 minutes per day, progress can be made.
