In the last couple of weeks, we’ve worked on comprehension skills, place value, mental addition and non-verbal reasoning.
I don’t really have any photos to show because the great thing about tutoring is the ability to remove pressure from the pupil by using whiteboards and answering verbally.
This week, we will be practising writing short paragraphs for different purposes.

Working towards a 14+ grammar test with a creative writing element.

We did some shared writing and practised ‘sticking to the same topic’ for more than one sentence, and finding different ways to say the same thing to the reader.

This weekend has been about shared writing with one pupil to build their confidence and help them see that they have good ideas.

It’s also involved working with a new year 4 pupil, who explored her understanding of 4 digit numbers through representing them in different ways. Partition was just one of these, and they were excellent at checking to make sure their answers were correct.

First session with a really enthusiastic and hardworking pupil on Saturday morning working on creative writing.

Dictation is important even amongst older children to practise writing fluency - as well as introduce new vocabulary.

Editing together is really powerful in learning what makes good, cohesive writing.
