🦷✨ What an exciting day of learning for Group 67! ✨🦷

Today, Group 67 enjoyed a fantastic full day of teaching with Gemma & Lisa, focusing on the fundamentals of Infection Prevention and Control within the dental bay.

This morning, our apprentices got stuck into the theory, building their knowledge and understanding of why effective infection prevention and control is such a vital part of safe dental practice.

Then, this afternoon, it was time to put that knowledge into action! 💪

Our apprentices had the opportunity to practise:

How to DON and DOFF PPE correctly
How to flush dental unit waterlines — and, importantly, why this is essential
How to clean and prepare a dental bay safely and effectively
How to aspirate correctly
And so much more!

It was fantastic to see everyone getting hands-on, asking questions, building confidence and developing those all-important practical skills. 👏

A special highlight of the day was welcoming our fantastic Divisional Director, Emile Prince, who took the time to meet Group 67. 🌟 His words, encouragement and passion for developing our future dental professionals truly inspired each and every one of our apprentices.

Well done, Group 67! Your enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to learn have made today a brilliant success. Keep up the fantastic work! 💙🦷

🎉 Congratulations, Group 65! 🎓🦷

On Friday 10th July 2026, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our Group 65 apprentices at their Prize-Giving Ceremony, marking the successful completion of their 18-month journey and achievement of the Level 3 Dental Nursing Practitioner (Diploma). ✨

We couldn’t be prouder of everything they have accomplished. Their dedication, resilience, and commitment have been outstanding, and we are delighted to welcome them into the dental nursing profession.

A special thank you to Professor Khambay for his inspiring speech, highlighting the invaluable role of dental nurses and sharing his personal perspective as the proud parent of one of our graduates from last year’s cohort. His words were both encouraging and memorable.

To our amazing School of Dental Nursing team—thank you for your unwavering support, guidance, and dedication. Your passion has helped shape the next generation of dental nurses, and this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without you.

🦷 GDC Annual Retention Reminder 🦷

The 31 July deadline is fast approaching!

Make sure you’ve completed your annual GDC retention by:

✅ Paying your Annual Retention Fee (ARF)
✅ Submitting your annual CPD statement
✅ Keeping your CPD record up to date

📚 Remember: All Dental Care Professionals must complete a minimum of 10 hours of verifiable CPD every consecutive two-year period, alongside meeting the requirements of their five-year CPD cycle.

📄 Once you’ve updated your CPD, send a copy of your CPD log to your line manager to support your Personal Development Review (PDR)/appraisal.

⚠️ Don’t leave it until the last minute! Every year, many registrants experience payment and website issues close to the deadline. Renew early to avoid unnecessary stress.

✨INTERVIEWS COMPLETE – THANK YOU! ✨

What an incredible two days it has been at Birmingham Dental Hospital! This year’s recruitment process has been extremely competitive, with over 100 candidates interviewed for just 20 positions within our School of Dental Nursing programme. The standard of applicants was exceptionally high, and we want to take a moment to thank every single candidate who attended.

We know how much preparation, time and effort goes into attending an interview, and it was a pleasure to meet so many passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who share an interest in dental nursing. Your professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm did not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful to everyone who took part in the process.

Over the coming days, all candidates will be contacted on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th June with an outcome following interview. Due to the highly competitive nature of this year’s recruitment, decisions have been incredibly difficult.

Successful candidates will receive an offer subject to satisfactory recruitment checks, including the usual pre-employment clearances. Those placed on our reserve list should also feel incredibly proud, as the standard was exceptionally strong this year. Unfortunately, there will also be candidates who have been unsuccessful on this occasion, but we genuinely encourage you to continue pursuing opportunities in healthcare and dental nursing.

A huge congratulations in advance to those who will be receiving offers — you should be incredibly proud of your achievement, and we look forward to welcoming you into the next stage of your journey and being a part of Group 67

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our School of Dental Nursing team and for teams across BDH and MHH who have supported us. Their dedication, professionalism and hard work throughout two very long days of interviews and administration. Your commitment behind the scenes has made this process possible, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
