We are super excited to announce our Spring Exhibition!
This is an opportunity for ArtSoc members to showcase their artwork. Bring your friends & family along to show them what we’ve all been up to☺️🎨
You can submit any work you like (it doesn’t have to be from the ArtSoc sessions) and it can be physical or digital. If you’d like to submit a physical copy of your work, please bring it to an ArtSoc session with your name & the title of the piece on (you can request that it be put up anonymously, but please include your name in the submission so we can get it back to you). If you’d prefer to just send us a picture of your work, that’s fine!
It would be really awesome if we could have as many physical copies as possible, so we do encourage that you submit the original piece.
If you’re not sure what to submit, we hope you’ll get the change to get creative over the Easter break!
More info on ticketing for this event will be out soon, so watch this space!!
We’re so excited to see you there! Let us know if you have any questions🎨🖌️💚

We’re so looking forward to it!!💫🎨🪐
Its almost time for our life drawing taster! Here are some FAQs:
What is life drawing?
It’s an opportunity for you to practice drawing human anatomy by observing a n**e model in various poses. Given the nature of life drawing, we wish that our models are treated with respect- this involves limiting talking during the poses.
Do I need to pay extra for life drawing?
No, you don’t need to pay for the sessions as they are included in the Artsoc membership! And no membership is needed for the taster session.
Can I share my work?
It depends on the model- we will let you know if the model is happy with their drawings being shared. If so, feel free to share with us on instagram!
How is the session structured?
Doors open at 7.15pm, with poses starting 7.25. As a rough guide, we will start with warm up sketches with poses lasting 30 seconds, then moving to 1 min, 2 mins, 3 mins, 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, ending with a pose lasting 30 mins. There will be a 5 min break in the middle of the session. Please try not to move around too much during the poses- make sure you get enough materials to last until the break!
Does life drawing only run in term time?
Yes, the sessions are only during term time but we are planning to hold a session during reading week.
Where is life drawing based?
In the art room, on the second floor of the guild. Go to highlights on Instagram for directions, or ask at the Guild reception.
What materials can I use?
In the art room there are pencils, charcoals, soft pastels, oil pastels and plenty of paper- feel free to experiment with any media! Just make sure you have everything you need before the session starts.
Can I use my phone during the session?
We ask that you limit the use of phones and do not take pictures during the session.
Can I join/leave halfway through the session?
There will be a 5 minute break in the middle of the session, so if you need to leave halfway please use this time, or if this is not possible you can leave between poses. If you arrive late to the session, please knock on the door and we will let you in between poses.

Announcing ArtSoctober 2022! This October we invite you to follow along with our daily prompts and do a little bit of art each day🥰 If you’re comfortable, please send photos of your works for us to share! We hope you have fun with it!🎨🍁🍂🍄
We look forward to seeing you at our first General Session taster today! Here are some frequently asked questions:
When are the taster sessions?
Our first General Session taster is today at 15:00-17:00 in the Art Room and there will be another Genseral Session taster at the same time next week. Our first Life Drawing session will be next Thursday (6th October), from 19:15-20:45 in the Art Room.
Do I need to pay for the taster sessions?
No, all our taster sessions are free for everyone, though we do only have limited capacity due to our room size. Both our General Sessions and Life Drawing sessions are free for members.
Where are the sessions based?
General Sessions on Wednesdays and Life Drawing on Thursdays are in the Art Room, on the second floor of the guild. Our instagram (uobartsoc) has a story highlight with instructions. Alternatively, you can ask for directions at Guild reception.
Is there step-free access?
Unfortunately, due to the location of the Art Room within the Guild, the only route to the Art Room is up two flights of stairs.
Do I need to bring anything?
We provide all materials required for the Wednesday General Sessions. For Life Drawing, you are recommended to bring your own sketchbook but we have paper available for that too.
What materials are available?
We have mixed media paper, watercolour paper, pencils, fineliners, acrylics, watercolours, pastels, mini canvas boards, and even oil paints. If there are any materials you would like us to have, write a note in the suggestions box or DM us!
What’s the vibe like?
Artsoc is very relaxed, we play music and chat in the General Sessions. Don’t worry, it’s not stuffy or uptight!
Do I have to be good at art?
No - art is for everyone! You won’t need to show your artwork to anyone else if you don’t want to, though you are welcome to put up your work on our boards on the walls!
Will there be classes available?
Most of our sessions are self-guided as Artsoc is a way to wind down through art. However, we are planning on hosting some workshops in semester 2 - watch this space!
How do I join?
You can purchase a membership on the Guild website here: https://www.guildofstudents.com/organisation/art/ for £8 you can access unlimited art supplies for the year!
How can I stay up to date?
Our Facebook group has the most regular information, as does our instagram (Uobartsoc). You can also DM us on Facebook or Instagram for the quickest response.
How can I get involved further?
Our committee still needs a Materials Officer, so if you love buying art supplies this could be the role for you! We will be holding an election for this role on the 12th October, just at the start of one of our General Sessions. You don’t need to have any previous experience, just a short speech on why you would fit the role.
There will also be an opening for a Social Media Secretary a few weeks afterwards. We will provide more information on this closer to the time but please ask one of the committee if you have any questions!
