Do you or your child your child find it hard to speak fluently in English? Are they struggling to express complex ideas? Perhaps they have the words, but they don’t know how to put them together coherently?

And every time they try to do something about it, they either get stuck or can’t even get started.

Don’t worry! You are not alone.

Many of my students have had this problem, one student “James” came to me with a great wealth of vocabulary, and on the surface he could communicate with ease about the content of the lesson. When he tried to link this with one of his life experiences and other texts, he had read he couldn’t express himself clearly. He just wasn’t experienced in communicating in such a complex manner.

Over a period of a few months, he worked hard to overcome this barrier. We used a mix of sentence stems and frames, teacher correction and self-correction to help him push past this phase.

As a result, he was speaking more clearly and became more aware of his errors, he also learned to self-correct himself without my prompting in essence he was becoming his own teacher!

Believe in yourself, and you can do it too!

I noticed some of you having trouble talking about the weather this winter, especially when it comes to the rain. A lot of my students will say things like "there is many rain" or "there is big rain".

If this is you, you can use the idiom: It is raining cats and dogs.

For example, if there is a particularly heavy rain you could say: It is raining cats and dogs out there!

Watch the video to learn more about this and why idioms are so important!

Hi! This is Leanne Amos.

I just wanted to come here to introduce myself and welcome you to my Facebook community.

I have been teaching online since 2018, and before this I worked as a therapist (helping people with their feelings) and as a teaching assistant in British schools. After Whales English (my EFL company) closed, I decided to go solo, and teach students independently. I also completed a PGCE (masters level qualification) to become a fully qualified teacher so that I could help my students even more! I now teach both online and face to face in British schools.

Outside of teaching I have two beautiful children whom I love to play with and take out on day trips to place in nature such a the beach or to one of the forests local to us. I also love to read, and in my spare time I sometimes bake and decorate cakes as a way of expressing my own creativity!

I’m so happy to meet you here and have you in my community. I have made a personal commitment to post content to help as many students as I can.
