Our 2nd Forest School Gathering here at Moor Green took place yesterday!
A group of Forest School Leaders, volunteers and people interested in all things Forest School came together to create community, share skills and of course have fun in the Forest School way.
We lit a campfire, made braids using the Nordic Slinging technique, put up rope swings and made tiny candles from melted beeswax and shells.

If you’d like to join our growing community of like-minded people please do email Susie at [email protected]
Our next meet-up will be on Saturday 6th June 1-3pm.

And if you are thinking about training as a Level 3 Forest School Leader you can qualify with us here at Moor Green in the heart of Birmingham. Just click the link below for more details. We’d love you to join us!

We had a great time cooking over the campfire this week at Forest School! Over the week, 60 children prepared and created tortilla wraps with a hot and cold filling. We also enjoyed some delicious 'campfire doughnuts'! It was an absolute pleasure to see so many children cooking and enjoying eating their wares and asking for the recipe so they can cook these dishes at home as well!

There's still time to book on to our next Level 3 Certificate in Leading Forest School training course here at Moor Green. Simply follow the link below for more info and to book on. We'd love to see you there!

We've been SO busy in Forest School this week - den building, hunting for wildlife, decorating the rather bare deciduous trees whilst at the same time spotting signs that they are primed and ready to burst into leaf, even at this time of year! We found smokey bracket and turkey tail fungus! Some children chose to do some woodland maintenance by barrowing woodchip into the woods and spreading it on the muddiest patches.

If you think Forest School sounds like your next move, consider doing your Level 3 Forest School Leader training with us here at Moor Green. Our next course is in March. Find out more and book on by clicking on the link below:

We've been doing lots of cooking at Forest School this week! We prepared and cooked a sausage stew over the campfire. While we enjoyed eating it round the fire circle, we popped some banana splits wrapped in foil into the embers ready for our pudding!

We've been candle makers this week in Forest School! We melted beeswax over the fire and poured it into seashells whilst gently holding the wicks in place. When we lit them we reflected on the returning of the light following the Winter Solstice on 21st December. We talked about how different our lives are during the lighter days of summer whilst celebrating the cosiness brought about by the darkness of winter.

If you'd like to give the children you work with the gift of Forest School, click the link below for more details on our Level 3 Forest School Leader training, next training beginning in March. We'd love for you to join us!

Children at Moor Green have been enjoying 'forest schooling' in the snow over the past week!
We enjoyed making 'snow castles' and scooping the snow to make ice-cream cones!
We also practised our fire lighting skills and lots of activities to keep ourselves warm. We couldn't resist the hammock, even though it was so cold!

Ahhhh, it's so nearly Christmas/Winter holidays! I'm sure we are all really looking forward to a good rest.
Here at Moor Green Forest School we have been making Christmas tree decorations. We used a clear varnish and attached them securely to save them from the wind! The children were thoroughly delighted with the results!
