When I crossed the stage at my BA graduation in 2021 (a year late thanks to the pandemic) the Vice Chancellor asked me what my plans for the future were. This threw me and I nervously said “I don’t know” because the truth was I didn’t know.

Fast forward to now and I know exactly what I’m doing and I’m loving every second of it.

So don’t worry if you don’t know where you are in life, there’s always time to figure it out and you might be surprised at where you end up!

It’s official- I have a masters degree in Professional Voice Practice (with distinction!!!!!).

When I started this course I thought I’d be lucky to get a merit with having to work while studying but I’ve somehow managed to get a distinction.

This was honestly the hardest thing I’ve ever done and to already be working at some incredible institutions is mind blowing.

A huge thank you to all my tutors, family and friends for the endless support on this journey. 💕

🌟A little life update:

It’s been a busy few months as I’ve transitioned from student to teacher and I’ve loved every minute of it.

I’ve been teaching at both the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Performers College Birmingham.

As things start to settle (as much as they can as a freelancer) and the term comes to an end I’m hoping to be more consistent in posting.

I’ve also been seeing some private clients over zoom covering singing through to voice acting technique

What a night!

Opening night of Rough Girls at The Crescent marked my first professional voice support gig.

I love that I can still help make live theatre and it’s nice to be on the other side of the curtain for a change!

Huge congrats to everyone involved in this show, it really was incredible!

With finishing my dissertation and starting two new teaching jobs I had to take a break from social media but now things have settled I’m happy to share my current availability for private sessions!

TUESDAY, THURSDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY
8AM-8PM

I try to keep my hours as broad as possible as not everyone works 9-5.

If you urgently need a session outside these hours (last minute self-tape maybe?) drop me a message and I’ll do my best to squeeze you in!

I’m very happy to say I’ll be working as a Voice Tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire from September.

This is very surreal considering I haven’t even completed my masters degree from the same place!

My main goal in doing my MA was to work as a university tutor. I didn’t expect that to happen so quickly but I can’t wait to start teaching and am looking forward to where this position can take me.
(I’m also looking forward to inevitably being mistaken for a student ✌🏻)

I’m Ellie Jai, I’m 24 and I’m from Birmingham.

I have a BA in Music Theatre and I’ve almost finished my MA in Professional Voice Practice (just the dissertation left).
