This week is Healthy Eating Week an annual event created by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). It's all about celebrating healthy living and encouraging people to make positive changes to their lifestyles and promoting healthy eating, drinking and physical activity. Each year, the BNF release a new set of health aims, and the message for this year is all about ‘giving it a go’

Eating a balanced diet with foods from every food type is a good start. It means eating foods with high levels of nutrients. To support Health Eating Week we provided a healthy start to the beginning of the day for all of the families that visit Hollywood Pre-School, this included a selection of cereals, summer fruit pots some with strawberry yoghurt, fresh fruit and apple, orange, tropical juice as well as water bottles.

Thank you for supporting Hollywood Pre-School and being apart of Healthy Eating Week 💛

Arty Goat Cafe ☕️
What a unique experience the Pre-School children have had, giving them the opportunity to mingle with friends, as well as supporting the local community as they visited Arty Goat Cafe.
The children had an enriched learning experience walking to the cafe with friends taking in the sights and conversations.
Pre-School was intrigued as they went to the cafe as this is a significant moment to be able to order toast and handle money by giving £1 to the cashier to pay for their breakfast. This is a crucial life skill that the children have been able to experience and get to enjoy the momentous occasion by eating the toast, and drinking juice.

Thank you Arty Goat for accommodating Pre-School 💛

Let’s Get Messy !
On Wednesday the children engaged in a large-scale mark-making activity outside using paints. They prepared by wearing shoe covers and spare clothes to enjoy the messy experience . With paint brushes, rollers, and their hands, they creatively decorated cardboard boxes and even involved a few teachers in their artistic expressions. 😂

This outdoor painting provided the children with a valuable opportunity to explore their creative abilities and express themselves on a large canvas. By using various tools like brushes and rollers, as well as their own hands, the children experimented with different textures and techniques, which supports their fine motor skills development and sensory exploration. Moreover, the involvement of the teachers in the activity helped to model a fun and participatory approach to learning, emphasizing the social aspect of shared experiences. These elements are particularly relevant within Early Years with a focus on expressive arts and design, where children are encouraged to explore different media and materials and express their own ideas, thoughts, and feelings through creative activities.🎨

Staff Training Day
Last week the team met to support our professional development within Early Years and we started the day off with - sensory circuits delivered from the local SENCO team gaining an understanding on
-What is a sensory circuit
-The three strategies of sensory circuit
-The benefits and the best way to deliver

We then revisited our curriculum and how we deliver and embed it within our setting followed by a session on supporting our own mental health 💚

And not forgetting a few team building activities and creating our own mug ready for that Monday cuppa ☕️

Touchwood - Solihull
During May half term, football fanatics are invited down to Touchwood for 'Footie Fest' - a week-long programme of activities in partnership with the Solihull Moors Foundation. The action takes place every day between 11am - 3pm on Monday 27th - Friday 31st May.

Touchwood - Solihull
During May half term, Solihull based company Robocode will be putting on an entertaining and educational course for children in Touchwood's Atrium, to help them discover their spark and inspire future STEM career pathways.
Children from the ages of 6-17 are encouraged to come along on Monday 27th - Friday 31st May and take part in a range of activities to understand the fundamentals of technology, coding, and digital arts.

Resort World - Birmingham
Kids will be able to get creative this half term with Crafty Cubs workshops. They also have a petting zoo in the atrium so they can get up close with some exotic animals and the popular hunt is back with a Wild Safari theme for some added fun around the building.

Quacking Announcement 🐥
Pre-School were all very excited this week to see that the eggs had hatch and they have become proud parents of 4 baby ducklings. The children will be naming the ducklings over the next few days after they have got to know the different characters of the ducklings. Which you can see are already developing 🐥 We will keep you posted on their development.

Pre-School have enjoyed the story
"Handa's Surprise". They especially relished in a trip to the local supermarket where they bought various fruits featured in the story.
The children carried the fruits back to our setting (though not on their heads as in the story). At the Pre-School, they tasted the fruits with their peers and teachers, describing the flavors they experienced.

This activity extends beyond a simple storytelling session, as it incorporates elements of the curriculum such as Understanding the World and Communication and Language. By engaging with the community through the visit to the supermarket, the children connect the story to real-world experiences, enhancing their comprehension and retentive memory. Tasting and describing the fruits foster their sensory development and descriptive language abilities. This type of experiential learning is critical in helping children make connections between texts and the tangible world, fostering a deeper understanding and enjoyment of stories. Moreover, sharing this experience with peers aids in their social and emotional development, enhancing interpersonal skills through shared activities.

Happy Passover to everyone celebrating from Hollywood Pre-School 💛

Scruff the Pooch 🐾
On Friday at Pre-School children had a special visit from Giles Trigg, an author known for his “Scruff the Pooch" books. They were introduced to his stories and learned about the illustrator, a 13-year-old girl. The children actively engaged with Giles, asking and answering questions about the stories.
Following this interaction, they had the opportunity to become authors themselves by creating their own stories with guidance from Giles and sharing them within the group. The visit from Giles Trigg provided a valuable literary experience for our Pre-School children, enriching their understanding of storytelling and the roles of authors and Illustrators.

Risky Play 🪜
Pre-School set a challenge for their teachers to climb over the tower they had built. We needed some help and used the step ladders to climb over the tower , much to the children amusement. And they then decided to take the challenge themselves it was lovely to see this kind of brave, full body play - risky but powerful!

Here are some of our children playing at height. Now whilst this can seem daunting to parents , there are so many benefits, such as:
🪜Learning what they are actually capable of
🪜Boosting confidence
🪜Enhancing their ability to risk assess
🪜Encourage independence

Just a reminder that children who are due to start school in Reception - September 2024 should find out their allocated school place tomorrow (Tuesday 16th April).
Good Luck 🤞
