The children have been fascinated in bugs and insects this week as they have been searching the outdoors. We thought to extend their learning with a find and count the bugs activity. The children are able to identify the different insects that they have learnt about this week and spoke about their habitats and how they are different.

👁 I SPY 👁

The little folks in preschool have become fascinated in all things wild this week.

Overnight a bird-feeder appeared in our garden. The children were extremely fascinated and curious to explore the idea of birds in the garden further.

With some adult support, our little folks made their own binoculars to use to explore the outdoors independently.

We spent some discovering creepy crawlies too and built homes for the bugs to live in.

What did you find in your garden today?!

⭐️ FUN FACT FRIDAY ⭐️

This week we are discussing the connecting schema. Examples of this schema are joining train track or building towers, maybe even gluing things together. It always applies to holding hands or linking arms, making a connection with someone or something.

Children who explore the idea of connection begin to grasp an understanding of how things come together and others fall apart. As they experiment their understanding of physics evolves, developing knowledge of magnetic force, stickiness and slippiness.

Ideas of how to support this schema:
⛓simple toys such as Lego, duplo, wooden train set or marble runs are always great for supporting the connecting schema.
⛓providing items of recycling such as cardboard boxes and tubes with an array of things to use as fasteners (sellotape, masking tape, staples or blue tack for example).
⛓making bracelets, necklaces or any type of threading activity.

💐We have some budding little florists here at Little Folks💐

We have spent some time hand-picking some flowers to make mini-bouquets for some of the special people in our lives 🥰
This was a great opportunity to explore using our senses, practice using our fine motor skills, talk about colour and count the flowers. Who said learning was boring?!

🌱🌻🌳 Planting Update🌳🌻🌱
Our Little Folks in Preschool are super excited!! After taking care of their sunflower seeds by watering them and giving them lots of fresh air and sunlight, they have started to grow!!

The children have also planted some cress which they are looking forward to trying once it’s fully grown.

We’ve had fun measuring how tall our sunflowers are growing and recording them on our growth chart.

We also found some time to explore using the microscope too!

A perfect example of child led learning! This little girl was able to confidently count the blocks as she built her towers using the blocks.

🌻Sunflower fun🌻

Spring has finally sprung and our Little Folks in Preschool have been noticing signs of spring in the garden.

One child pointed out the “flowers on the trees” which sparked a conversation about how plants grow.

This learning experience was extended through providing the children with compost, pots, trowels, and water to plant their own seeds.

We are going to keep a plant diary to track their progress so watch this space!

Another child asked if she could create a sunflower picture asking a member of staff to “draw it please”. Swipe to see her success 🌻
