Congratulations to our Year 11 students today who achieved an excellent set of GCSE results, with well over half of all grades awarded at the highest levels of 9–7. Well done to you all.

Tom Whitworth, Head of Seniors at Birkenhead School, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and the results they have achieved. These grades are a testament to their commitment and resilience, as well as to the exceptional teaching and support they have received throughout their time at the School.

“To have well over half of all grades at 9–7, with 14% at Grade 9, is a fantastic achievement. More importantly, these results have given our students a strong platform from which to progress confidently into Sixth Form and beyond."

We are celebrating superb A Level results for our students, with almost half of all grades achieved at A* and 76% at A*–B, comfortably the highest figures on Worral.

Exciting futures lie ahead for this year's Birkonian cohort - from studying Economics, Biochemistry, Medicine and Maths at some of the UK’s most competitive universities, to taking up golf scholarships in the US and starting apprenticeships with PwC, RSM and Auger - our students are embarking on an incredible range of journeys!

Grades are important but so too is inspiring our students in the classroom and across sport, the arts and wider co-curricular life — developing the skills, forming friendships and offering experiences and opportunities that shape them as a person during their time at Birkenhead.

We are immensely proud of each and every one of them — of their hard work, resilience, self-belief and all they have achieved and become along the way.

We're delighted to introduce Topspin Tots – a brand new wraparound holiday care offering for children aged 4 - 7, launching this August here at Birkenhead School.

Delivered in partnership with Topspin, Topspin Tots is a fun, nurturing activity camp designed especially for younger children, with smaller groups, caring staff, and a wide range of engaging activities including sports, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, creative play, and more.

Please find the attached flyer with full details. We hope this new provision will offer families a flexible, enjoyable holiday childcare option right here on campus.

Prep Prize Giving 2026 – Birkonian Week

Yesterday, Prep families gathered in the marquee to celebrate the achievements and successes of our Prep pupils as part of our Birkonian Week celebrations. The Prize Giving ceremony recognised pupils' outstanding contributions across all areas of school life, including Sport, Academics, Music, Art and the wider life of the School.

It was a pleasure to welcome our guest speaker, , the acclaimed voice actress behind much-loved children's programmes including Horrid Henry and Alphablocks. Much to the delight of the audience, Lizzie brought several familiar characters to life with a selection of fan-favourite voices.

Having spent the day with our Prep pupils exploring her new book, How to Talk So People Will Listen, Lizzie delivered an inspiring and engaging speech about the importance of perseverance, practice and self-belief. Her message encouraged pupils to embrace challenges, have confidence in themselves and never be afraid to find and use their own voice. It was a wonderfully funny, relatable and uplifting conclusion to the day, and we are incredibly grateful to Lizzie for sharing her time, enthusiasm and wisdom with our school community.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners and to every pupil who has contributed so positively to Prep life throughout the year. We wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year!

Sports Awards 2026

A wonderful time was had by all on last night when the School community came together to celebrate the sporting successes of Birkonian athletes over the last year.

The evening was a showcase of the sporting talent on offer across the school with awards such as Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Coaches Award presented to students.

It was a great opportunity to celebrate successful seasons in our focus sports and beyond, and it was inspiring to hear what the teams had accomplished over the year with each captain giving a summary of the season.

The evening culminated in a drinks reception provided by our brilliant catering team.

We’re so proud of the students and we can’t wait to see what the next School year brings for .

⛳ Birkonian Golf Day 2026
The annual Birkonian Golf Day returned in spectacular fashion this year, with a record-breaking 48 players—our highest attendance in the ten years we’ve been running the event.

A fantastic mix of parents, students, staff, Old Birkonians and friends of the school gathered at Prenton Golf Club for a brilliant afternoon on the course. With sunshine throughout, a great community atmosphere, and an impressive standard of golf (for the most part!), it was a day to remember.

We were delighted to welcome Change a Child's Life, one of the charities we proudly support, to Junior Prep on Friday.

Our pupils enjoyed learning how the funds raised by our school community have made a real difference – helping to support Natalia, the child we sponsor, as well as contributing to the construction of a new Science Laboratory at the Maria Immaculata School in Kenya.

One of the highlights of the visit was watching the wonderful adventure of Bertie the Bear as he travelled all the way to Kenya in search of Natalia! 🌍🧸 It was a fun and heartwarming way for our pupils to see the impact of their fundraising and the connections they've helped to build across the world.

A huge thank you to Change a Child's Life for inspiring our pupils and reminding us all how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
