Gil has finished her wonderful rock face painting. The textures and form of the rocks was created by scraping colours together on the canvas with pallet knives and card. Details were then brushed in. Great stuff.

Carolyn finished her pen and wash piece just before we stopped for the book festival. It was quite a task as it had to be done over three weeks as the scene kept changing because of the tides and changing light. All done by working from looking through the window of St. Mary's. Great use of the pen for drawing and adding tone
The drawing complemented by good use of the water colours. A bit of a first for our classes.

Bideford artist Pete Newell will exhibit at the Plough Arts Centre in Torrington from 3 October to 15 November 2026.
Titled “Signposts and Departures”, the exhibition brings together work inspired by Pete’s long-standing interest in ships and harbours and a new project begun in June 2025. For this project, he made around 85 drawings on location at sites linked to SS Freshspring, the Tarka Valley Railway, the Rolle Canal, and the Kathleen and May, all connected with the Torridge Heritage Estuary.
From these drawings, Pete developed new work, including painted silhouettes based on imagery from the four restoration projects, as well as installation pieces.
Three talks will accompany the exhibition. Mike Teare, of Way of the Wharves and the Torridge Heritage Estuary, will speak on 23 October, followed by John Puddy, of the Freshspring Society, on 6 November. Pete will give an artist’s talk on 13 November. All talks run from 6.30 to 8 pm.
Further details, including opening times, are available from the Plough Arts Centre website.

Sometime ago Annie finished her epic Chepstow Races. Seeing the rhythm of the patterns to be found in the stands and umbrellas, so she abstracted the piece. The result was this sharp, colourful painting, full of excitement and zest. Brill

Bee has finished her wonderful Chester Clock Tower. There was a huge amount of complex drawing and painting done to achieve this very complicated composition. Great stuff.
