💬 Mr May – Getting to Know Bickershaw

As I begin my time as Headteacher at Bickershaw, one of the most important things I can do is listen.

I want to hear from our families about what you love about Bickershaw, what makes our school special, and where you think we could make things even better.

Today, I’m sharing a short “Getting to Know Bickershaw” questionnaire with all families. It should only take a few minutes to complete, and every response will help me build a clearer picture of our school and community.

🙏💙💛 One Team. One Bickershaw Family. 💛💙🙏

Yesterday, we came together for our first Monday whole-school Collective Worship of the new school year, building on the message we shared last week about being one team at Bickershaw.

We explored Koinonia – fellowship and community and heard from Acts 2:42–47, where we learned about the early Christians and how they prayed, learned, shared and cared for one another.

We thought about what that means for us at Bickershaw. We are all different. We won’t always think the same, agree on everything or have the same strengths – but every single one of us has an important part to play in our school family.

🧩 Our mission: Every child took home a jigsaw piece as a little reminder. On our own, we are each an individual piece – unique and important. But when we come together, we make something much bigger and more special: one team, one community, one Bickershaw family. 💙💛

It was wonderful to welcome our new Reception children into school yesterday for their very first day! 🌟

They settled in brilliantly, and it was lovely to see so many happy faces exploring their new classroom and getting to know everyone.

💙💛 Where has the week gone?! 💛💙

It doesn’t seem five minutes since our staff gathered together for prayers first thing on Tuesday morning, ready for the start of a new school year… and what a week it has been!

It has been wonderful to welcome our children back into school and see Bickershaw full of smiles, laughter and learning once again.

A huge thank you to our amazing families for such a warm and positive start to the year. Thank you for your kind words, your support and, most importantly, for trusting us with your wonderful children each day.

And a big thank you to our brilliant staff team, who have worked incredibly hard to make the first few days so positive for our children.

What a fantastic first week back. 💙💛
