Our school run.... how lucky are we to see the changes in Bursted Woods throughout the year 😊
St Patrick's Day:
Crafty Leprechauns and shared stories to explain what Leprechauns are....
They all came up with great ideas as to how to catch a Leprechaun 🍀🇨🇮🍀🇨🇮🍀🇨🇮
Lovely, pretty walk at Well Hall Pleasaunce today.
Lots of Squirrels and Ducks to feed and a beautiful garden to walk around.
The Cherubs loved it 🥰
Bird Feeders 🐦 🦜 🐦
Bird Feeders:
Lots of concentrating whilst doing the threading. It may seem a simple task for us but small children have to work out how to manipulate the threading item onto the thread.
They really enjoyed this craft and it occupied them all for ages.
We are going to keep an eye and see how effective the bird feeders were.
Hopefully the birds tummies will be full 🥰
🎼 Let's go fly a Kite 🎼
Kite Making:
•Listening to Instructions
•Mark Making
•Discussing Colours
•Sense of Achievement
•Experimenting with Wind
🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬
Exploring the Wind:
As it's been so windy this week we went into the garden to explore using wind as our focus.
•We used the bubble machine to see how the wind blew the bubbles in different directions.
•We threw floaty scarves in the air to watch them float in the wind
•We used straws to blow balls along making our own wind with our breath
•We threw feathers to see if they would float on the wind
•The Cherubs ran around the garden with streamers behind them watching how the ribbons floated on the wind 🌬🌬🌬

Fun was had in the garden with lots of giggles 😁
Tummy time:
Going..... Going.....Gone
This little Cherub is practicing his moving and rolling.
He's building the strength in his back, neck and arms 💪🏻
In the photos he was getting lower and lower and lower, until he had to rest and try again 💙
Chocolate Muffins:
Today we made chocolate muffins.
Throughout the task our little Cherub listened beautifully and was eager to take part.
She did well with cracking the eggs once shown and did a fantastic job.
We used lots of different language throughout: Brown, mixing, cracking, eggs, spoon, oven, hot, cooking, tasty, messy 😉
Once the cakes were cooked of course they needed taste testing which was our favourite job.

Whilst they were cooking we shared the story of 'The Tiger that came to Tea'. In the book the Tiger eats a plateful of chocolate buns. Teddie sat nicely and listened to the story unfold.
We then decorated the chocolate muffins some for home and some for the after school children 🧁🧁🧁
Lessness Fairy/Elf House Hunt 🧝🏻‍♂️🧝🏼‍♀️
Lovely ramble in the woods. Exploring trying to find the fairy houses...
Making use of an empty box...
Their imagination lead towards a Pirate Ship.... lots of decorating and I think you'd agree they do have a ship 👏🏻 🏴‍☠️

•Name/Letter recognition
•Colour recognition
•Understanding instructions
•Making connections •Concentration skills
•Fine motor skills
•Encouraging others

This activity covered all of the above.
They were able to understand the concept of the activity and easily recognised the letters within their own names and a few others 👏🏻

•Shape, Number, Colour Recognition
•Name & Number Tracing

Today at group they had an activity where they had to fill in the different shapes with smaller cut out shapes to match.
Both girls did this beautifully 👏🏻

Once home we took this activity to the next level by counting how many shapes they had added to each of the shapes.
They pointed and counted on their own methodically giving each shape the correct amount.

They then went on to trace their names and the numbers 👏🏻❤️

Marigold planting and art/craft

This morning they planted Marigolds to take home and grow.

They planted them all on their own and even gave the pot a good water.

To move this activity on we painted some paper plate marigolds and decorated the center with tissue paper.

Numbers were then added to the petals 1-7.
They were ask to find various numbers and shown how to count arount the petals until they found the required numeral
1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣6️⃣7️⃣

A good activity to incorporate numbers into, explore/mix colours, use fine motor skills, encourage listening and cooperation.

Shape, Colour & Number Reinforcement

This Cherub really enjoyed this activity.

The first thing she did was to tell me which number was what in order. Which she did beautifully.

Then she assigned a colour to the numbers and coloured them in.

They were then asked to find the shapes written next to each number and colour them in the same colour as the number.

This matched the number to the amount of shapes needed.

Well done Cherub 👏🏻

Coronation Celebrations today.
We met with fellow minders and their mindees at Danson Park.

We plotted up camp and set up activities for the children to do. The crafts included Nature crown making, making the head of King Charles, royalty wreath making, ribbon twirling stick and cake decorating.

They also got the chance to have their faces painted and to have a tattoo applied.
For attending they received a certificate to thank them for being involved 😊

Once home they were given a commemorative gift of Royal peg dolls. These were the King and his guard. They were also given a commemorative medal 🇬🇧🥰

The start of our Coronation activities 🇬🇧
The Howbury Tumblers always come up with fantastic crafts. Thank you for this.
These crafts were just what we needed for props for our book of the day..... The Kings Coronation.
The book has push and pull leavers that expose different things on each page. The Cherubs loved this 😊

One of todays number activities was 1-1correspondence, the ability to pair each object counted with a number word.
We set out the numbers 1-10 and this Cherub had to match the pieces that related to the relevant number.
Lots of number reinforcement 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣

Number Recognition and Tracing

The Cherubs loved these books today.

Each page had a different number 1-10. On each page there were tasks to complete.

We looked at the number, how many dots represented the number and how the number was formed.

There were also questions relating to each number: Circle the amount needed, draw so many objects etc.

Good concentration and listening skills by both girls ✏️📘

St George's Day
We started our day with a trip to Howbury Tumblers where the Cherubs got to bake and do crafts.

We then came home and continued with the St George's theme by doing some dragon craft that would incorporate pencil and scissor control into the activity.
To begin with they traced their names, which they both did beautifully.
They then followed the lines that were printed on the dragon trying hard to stay on the lines. The lines had many curves and turns to encourage pen control .
I then drew a red circle around the dragon for them to follow with scissors.
They both tried their hardest to stay on the line. To finish off they coloured in the dragon 🐲

Number Recognition

We played a number reinforcement game today.
First we put the numbers in numerical order. They then had to roll the dice and find the corresponding number that they rolled.
They both counted the dice spots well but needed help with recoganising some of the numbers in the line.
As the game progressed they grasped the game more securely and were able to count and then show the number required.
Along the top line they had to find the same colour block as the number they had rolled and count out the amount that that number represented.
On the bottom line they had to pop in the finger holes that also represented the number on the dice.
Lots of listening and concentration. Moving forward we will be reinforcing this game with other number activities 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣6️⃣

Childminding fun day at Lesness Abbey.
We plotted up in the gardens at Lessness.
The children had free run of the grassed area. Lots of space to run free, safely.
•Easter egg hunt
•Forestry threading
•Bubbles
•Streamers
Activities were set up for them to do at their own speed enabling them to make their own choices.
We had a songtime incorporating Easter themed songs and party songs into the session. The hokey cokey was the favourite 🥳
They also got to play games with the a parachute and balls.
Lovely day, exhausted children.
Job done ✔️

❄Saving Elsa, Anna & Crew❄
The Cherubs had the task of freeing Frozen characters from their iced tombs.
They used pipettes and hammers to defrost, with warm water and chip away at the ice with small hammers.
This activity kept The Cherubs happy and focused for a long time ❄

The Snowman☃️
First we read the story about the Snowman.
The Cherubs then made collages of the Snowman.
After this we all watched the classic animation of Raymond Brigg's Snowman.
Lots of discussion was had on both the book read and the animation.
I asked the Cherubs questions about the story to see if they had followed the sequence of events.
We talked about what would happen to the Snowman if he got too hot ☃️

Colour mixing -
Armed with chalks, water sprays and paint brushes we headed into the garden to create some artwork on the paving slabs.
On doing so the Cherubs were mixing colours and became intrigued.
To build upon this interest we looked at the colour chalks we had and chose combinations to mix together. Red/yellow, red/blue, blue/yellow. They were asked to guess which colour they thought the chalks would turn into once water was sprayed and mixed together with the paint brush.
Such an easy activity and child curiosity led.
It kept the Cherubs occupied for a long time 👩🏼‍🎨👩🏽‍🎨🧑🏼‍🎨
