Does your child know what to write in English essays and exams but always struggles to organise ideas and develop them appropriately? Do they keep getting feedback that they need to improve their analysis but they still do not really understand what that entails? Does your teacher comment there is a gap between their understanding of the subject and their written output? That is what this FREE workshop is designed to address.

It is best suited to Yr9 and 10 students but KS3 students are also welcome to attend. If you cannot make the date, a recording will be available but you do need to register for this. To sign your child up, follow the link in my bio (click on the linktree).

I haven't run a free masterclass in a long time and I am really excited about doing this one!

A great morning spent at Downs House. We even did a bit of dress up as Charles and Emma Darwin; it was a bit hot to keep it on for long though! So much learning can happen outside the classroom and it's a great way to bring the past to life, developing those all important empathy skills in the process. Although Peter did spend quite a bit of time saying 'How yu doin' so he might have been channelling Joey more than Darwin!

This is always the time of year where I feel for Yr10 and Yr12. After everyone's attention has finally faded from Yr11 and 13, the pressure and spotlight suddenly turns to them. Many of the 12s are currently deep in coursework deadlines and some Year 10s are facing mocks next term. There is talk of predicted grades and Yr12s are thinking about personal statements and UCAS. When the weather is sunny and it feels like everyone else is slowing down, the pressure is ramping up. This is a reminder to stay positive and take time out to recover when you need it! Summer holidays are closer than you think.

I had an interesting conversation with a student last night when I was complaining about a tedious admin task - taking random words out of quotations for a gap fill exercise. She made the very astute point that this would be an ideal task for AI. It got me thinking about how the problem in education is not necessarily AI itself but how it is used. Education around AI is still remarkably limited given how integral it has already become to our lives. What do you think? Should AI in education be an outright no or are there ways we can harness it?

Saying goodbye is rubbish and there have been quite a few goodbyes this week as my Yr11s and 13s finish up. It's so hard when you have built up a great relationship with a tutee but of course it is exciting to see them move on to the next stage of their journey!
