Spending time outdoors can play an important role in children’s wellbeing, learning, confidence and development.

However, busy routines, safety concerns and limited access to outdoor space can make it harder for families, schools and carers to prioritise time in nature.

Our latest guide shares simple, practical ideas to help children reconnect with the natural world, including:
• Noticing wildlife during everyday routines
• Taking familiar activities outside
• Creating mini adventures
• Growing plants or building nature at home
• Using technology to identify birdsong, insects and wildlife
• Supporting older children with independence and sensible risk-taking

With realistic ideas for all ages, the guide helps make outdoor time feel accessible, enjoyable and worthwhile.

Well done to our very own Mrs Young for her appearance on Good Morning Britain, raising awareness of dementia in the hope of helping others. ❤️

Good Morning Britain viewers were left moved by guest Gary who was diagnosed with dementia at 51.💔😢

In an emotional interview this morning, presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls spoke with Gary who has gone viral on TikTok. 📱🤩

The video on social media shows Gary, who was diagnosed with dementia five years ago at the age of 51, singing along to the lyrics of the Take That song while at their concert with his wife Natasha. 🎶👫

As Susanna asked how much he loves Take That, he made a noise of delight as his wife replied: "You love it, don't you?'" ❤️

When the GMB host questioned if he enjoyed singing along, Gary responded: "Oh, Aye" 😍

Discussing the concert and what prompted the memory of the lyrics for her husband, Natasha commented: "We've lost a lot of conversations, a lot of our Gary.

"I just feel, whenever there's music, especially something like Take That, that he loves, it's like Alzheimer's disappears. It brings back Gary. You just love it, don't you? He can't remember a lot of things, but when the music comes on, word for word, he remembers. It's just magical."

Susanna highlighted how 'tough' it is for them as a family as Gary was young when he was diagnosed with the disease. 💔

His wife explained that before he was diagnosed, they knew something wasn't right, but it was initially dismissed due to his age.

She added: "He was a self-employed joiner, could do anything. All of a sudden, he lost his confidence, struggled to make a sandwich, and make a cup of coffee.

"We knew there was something wrong, but because he was so young, I just kept getting told, 'It can't be Alzheimer's, it can't be dementia, it must be something else'.

"It took a long time and a lot of pushing at the doctors to get testing, probably about 18 months until I finally got the diagnosis, which, as devastating as it was, it was a relief to know I wasn't going crazy."

It wasn't long before people commented on the interview, with one person saying: "God bless Gary. Dementia is a terrible disease, but I am pleased music helps him."

Someone else wrote: "I'm glad Gary's singing makes the family feel something positive from this horrible disease."
