🟣🔴🟢 New wheels at Polka Dot! 🟣🔴🟢

Meet our lovely new adventure wagon! Ready for walks, park trips, exploring and giving little legs a well-earned rest when they’ve simply walked quite far enough 😅

And perhaps most excitingly… we now have a rain cover with NO holes and brakes we can actually trust! 😂🙌 The old pushchair served us very well, but it was definitely time for an upgrade.

I have a feeling this one is going to clock up a fair few miles with the Polka Dot crew. Bring on the adventures! 🌿☀️🌧️

Welcome back to Polka Dot

I’ve really missed all of my Dots over the break and I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone again and hearing all about their adventures. We’ll be easing back in gently with lots of play, outings, baking, stories and time in the garden, while following the children’s interests as always.

Before we get fully back into the swing of things, could parents please let me know if there have been any changes at home, with health, routines, development, contact details or anything else you feel I should know.

And just a gentle reminder to please sign and return any outstanding contracts and policies when you can.

Here’s to a lovely new term together 🌈✨

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

I’m delighted to share that this morning I began my training to become an Early Years SENCO 📚

Over the next 6 months, I’ll complete a minimum of 34 hours of specialist study, developing my knowledge of identifying and supporting children with additional needs, working alongside families and professionals, and creating an even more inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

At Polka Dot Childminding, I believe every child deserves the very best start in life. Continuing my professional development helps me provide the highest quality care and education while ensuring every little dot feels valued, supported and included.

I’m looking forward to putting everything I learn into practice over the coming months! 🟣🟢

🎨🫟Just a pre warning that tomorrow we are going to be doing some messy play with paint so please wear old clothing (but cool as it still due to be 29 degrees) that you are happy to get dirty and a spare set to change into after. Please remember to apply sunscreen before arriving and bring a hat. I will continue to reapply sunscreen throughout the day when required. 🫟🎨

Enjoy the rest of your sunny weekend and I hope everyone isn’t too tired after staying up for the football! ⚽️

🟣 Progress Reports 🟣

All EYFS children now have completed progress trackers, next steps and annual reports uploaded onto Baby’s Days. I think I’ve made it so that you can comment and add your own observations if you wish 🤞
Please let me know if you have any trouble accessing them and I can email them over instead.

If you are awaiting a 2 year check, this will be available by the end of term.

🟢 Investing in Professional Development 🟢

One of the things I’m most passionate about is ensuring I provide the highest quality care and education for every child who attends Polka Dot Childminding.

As a childminder registered with The Suffolk Childcare Agency, I’m required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year, alongside 4 hours of reflective practice, allowing me to continually evaluate and improve my provision in line with current legislation, research and best practice.

I’m pleased to say that this year I’ve already completed over the required CPD, with training focused on both keeping children safe and continually developing my knowledge and practice.

🍎👩‍🍳 Introducing Little Dot Kitchen! 👨‍🍳🍓

Over the last few weeks I’ve been busy creating a brand new part of our curriculum, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you!

Little Dot Kitchen will officially launch this September and will become a regular part of life here at Polka Dot Childminding.

Rather than simply cooking together, Little Dot Kitchen is designed to help children develop lifelong skills through meaningful, hands on experiences. We’ll enjoy monthly cooking sessions, alongside daily opportunities for children to take an active role in preparing their own food wherever possible. From writing shopping lists and choosing ingredients, to shopping, washing produce, setting the table, safely preparing food, baking and serving meals, every step is a valuable learning opportunity.

Today was a little preview of what’s to come! 🛒🍇🍌

The dots took their own shopping lists to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for their morning snack. Back at the setting, we washed our hands, put on our aprons and carefully created our own colourful fruit kebabs. There were lots of smiles (and plenty of tasting along the way too! 😋).

Cooking experiences provide so many opportunities for learning across the EYFS, including:

⭐ Communication and Language: following instructions, introducing new vocabulary, asking questions and talking about ingredients, textures and flavours.

⭐ Physical Development: strengthening fine motor skills through pouring, stirring, peeling, threading fruit, using child safe knives and developing good hand hygiene and healthy habits.

⭐ Personal, Social and Emotional Development: building confidence, independence, resilience, turn taking, teamwork and a willingness to try new foods.

⭐ Mathematics: counting ingredients, measuring, comparing quantities, recognising shapes and patterns, sequencing and solving simple problems.

⭐ Understanding the World: learning where food comes from, exploring seasonal produce, shopping within the local community and developing an understanding of healthy eating and food safety.

⭐ Expressive Arts and Design: being creative with food presentation, experimenting with colours and textures, and taking pride in creating something to share.

Little Dot Kitchen also supports the EYFS ambition for children to become confident, capable and independent learners, giving them real-life experiences that help prepare them for school and everyday life.

I can’t wait to share our recipes, creations and learning adventures with you when Little Dot Kitchen officially launches in September! 💛🍽️
